The Cleveland Browns have the sixth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, so they won't be able to draft one of the top QBs from college.
However, once free agency starts, the Browns could sign a Pro Bowl QB.
NFL analyst Alex Kay of Bleacher Report predicts that Cleveland will sign Mac Jones in free agency.
"Signing Mac Jones in free agency makes sense for Cleveland," Kay wrote. "After an impressive stint with the 49ers, the 2021 first-rounder could push for the starting job in camp and makes for a sensible candidate to take over should Shedeur Sanders regress during a pivotal sophomore season.
"Although Jones didn't pan out for the New England Patriots or the Jacksonville Jaguars, he went 5-3 across eight starts for the playoff-bound San Francisco 49ers—completing nearly 70 percent of his throws for 2,151 yards and 13 touchdowns against six interceptions in those contests.
"If Jones and Sanders end up battling one another to prove they can be viable NFL starters, the Browns will play host to one of the league's most intriguing quarterback competitions this offseason."
Jones appeared in 11 games for the 49ers this season while Brock Purdy was injured. The Alabama product threw for 2,151 yards and 13 touchdowns while completing 69.6% of his passes.
Jones made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season with the Patriots. He has 12,741 passing yards and 67 passing touchdowns in the NFL with the Patriots, Jaguars and 49ers.
The Browns went 5-12 this season. They fired Kevin Stefanski as head coach, so they will need to hire a new coach before the 2026 NFL Draft and free agency.
It will be fascinating to see who is coaching the Browns next season and who the starting QB is in Week 1. Cleveland hasn't made the playoffs since the 2023 season.
