Head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed in his Week 5 press conference that wide receivers DeAndre Carter and Cedric Tillman will be out for “weeks.”
Both Carter and Tillman were injured in Week 4’s 34-10 loss to the Detroit Lions, forcing the Browns to go 1-3 for the season.
Carter, who was serving as the team’s top kick returner and punt returner has been dealing with a lingering knee injury over the past few weeks but has managed to play in every game so far. However, because of his special teams role, he had never played an official snap.
Unfortunately, luck ran out in the fourth quarter on Sunday, as the knee injury turned a tad more serious.
For the return game, expect Isaiah Bond, the undrafted free agent who was projected as a first round talent this past draft, to take on the slack. Bond has already taken a return, but his blazing speed makes him a prime candidate to do damage as a returner.
Tillman, suffered a hamstring injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s game and was ultimately ruled out for the rest of the game.
It’s a major blow to the Browns offense, who have relied heavily on Tillman as their WR2. So far in four games, he’s compiled 106 yards, with two touchdowns, and he’s become a reliable target for Joe Flacco whenever he’s needed a first down with eight total first downs.
Jerry Jeudy has been the lead guy in the receiver room, but now with Tillman’s absence, it’ll likely be on Jamari Thrash and Bond to pick up the slack.
Bond has done a solid job in limited action, hauling in seven catches for 85 yards. Thrash, on the other hand, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and has had a hard time seeing the field due to being buried on the depth chart.
Now is the perfect opportunity for Thrash to take advantage of the opportunity with him being the second longest tenured Brown alongside Jeudy.
It’s just another hurdle that the Browns have to climb, and after already dealing with a myriad of injuries, Stefanski will have to find another way to maneuver through the season.
