The accolades are starting to roll in for Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, following his historic 2025 campaign.
On Wednesday, the Pro Football Writers of America unveiled their MVP, Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year recipients, with Garrett taking home the DPOY for a second time in three years.
Garrett put the finishing touches on a record-setting season in Week 18, sacking Cincinnati Bengals' QB Joe Burrow late in the fourth quarter to earn his 23rd sack. That figure made him the official single-season sack king, outpacing his Pittsburgh Steelers counterpart T.J. Watt and NFL Hall of Famer Michael Strahan, who previously shared the record of 22.5 sacks in one season.
In a largely forgettable 2025 Browns campaign, Garrett was must-see TV each and every week as he closed in on the record. It wasn't just the sacks that made his season so memorable, though. Garrett set a career-high in tackles for loss with 33 and also tied his career-high in total tackles with 60. The 30-year-old also forced three fumbles and broke up a pass.
On the way to setting the record, Garrett also surpassed several other milestones, including becoming the first player since 1982 to record at least 12 sacks in six consecutive seasons. He also established a new record for sacks by a player before turning 30, with 124.5 before his 30th birthday hit on Dec. 29, just before Week 18.
Garrett previously won the PFWA's Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2023, and followed it up by winning the NFL's AP Defensive Player of the Year Award several weeks later.
For what it's worth, the PFWA's DPOY winner has been a precursor to the same player winning the NFL's version of the award nine out of the last 10 years. The only exception came in 2017 when Calais Campbell won it via the PFWA, but Aaron Donald won it at the NFL Honors show.
Joining Garrett in being recognized with one of the three premier yearly awards handed out by the PFWA were Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford, who was voted league MVP. Seattle Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, took home the PFWA's Offensive Player of the Year Award.
The trio of winners were also named to the PFWA's All-NFL Team. They were also each recognized with AP First Team All-Pro nominations earlier this month
