This Shedeur Sanders scenario would be devastating for the Cleveland Browns.

The Cleveland Browns did not select a quarterback in this year's NFL Draft, which should not come as much of a surprise given how thin the class was.

As of right now, Shedeur Sanders is the starter under center, although there appears to be a legitimate chance he could be unseated by Deshaun Watson.

Regardless, you have to think the Browns are looking toward the 2027 draft for their next quarterback, as it's slated to be a loaded group at the position (although everyone was saying the same thing about 2026 last spring).

On that note, Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon has revealed a nightmare scenario for Cleveland when it comes to the progression of Sanders and the chances of the Browns getting a top draft pick next April.

"Neither Shedeur Sanders nor Dillon Gabriel takes a step forward, but a revamped supporting cast and elite defense help the Browns win just enough games to cost them significant first-round draft capital to pursue a new quarterback," Gagnon wrote.

Cleveland has actually put together a decent offseason, repairing its offensive line while also adding some much-needed weapons for the aerial attack.

But that doesn't necessarily mean that Sanders will prove he is capable of being a franchise quarterback next season, and the Browns just might be good enough to win six or seven games to take themselves out of contention for Arch Manning.

Heck, Cleveland kind of did that this past year, having gone 3-4 after a 2-8 start to finish with five wins and land the No. 6 overall pick in the draft.

The good news is that the 2027 quarterback class should have enough talent where the Browns can finish outside of the top five and still land a potential franchise player, but again, nothing is guaranteed in that regard.

Just two signal-callers went in Round 1 this year, and one of them — Ty Simpson — went 13th overall to the Los Angeles Rams. Fernando Mendoza was the only quarterback worthy of a top-10 pick, as he went No. 1 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders.

No one knows for sure what the future holds, but if Sanders plateaus (or regresses, God forbid) and Cleveland as a whole is decent, it really would present an awful situation for general manager Andrew Berry.
