Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders has announced big news.
It may be the NFL offseason, but Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders is still making news.
Sanders announced a big update on Monday, changing his jersey number from 12 to 2.
Sanders previously wore the number two in high school at Trinity Christian and throughout his college tenure at Jackson State and Colorado.
Sanders finished his rookie season with 1,400 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 169 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. He went 3-4 as a starter.
Sanders was named to the Pro Bowl as a replacement selection. He's one of the most popular players in the NFL because of who his dad is: Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
Shedeur will compete with Deshaun Watson in training camp for the Browns' starting QB spot. Watson is back after missing all of last season recovering from his Achilles tear.
Suspension and injuries have limited Watson to 19 games since he arrived in Cleveland. Since making his Browns debut, Watson has posted a 33.1 Total QBR, which would be the lowest among qualified passers.
A Clemson product, Watson has 3,365 passing yards and 19 passing touchdowns with Cleveland. He's thrown 12 interceptions.
New Browns head coach Todd Monken is looking forward to working with Watson, who has 17,904 passing yards and 123 passing touchdowns in the NFL with the Houston Texans and Browns. He was the 12th overall pick in the 2017 draft.
"Anytime that you have a player that at one time has exhibited the skill set at an elite level," Monken said of Watson. "I think you're always going to give them the benefit of the doubt that somehow we might be able to get that out of him again, and I think that's how you should look at every player."
Cleveland went 5-12 last season. Monken replaces Kevin Stefanski, who was fired and joined the Atlanta Falcons as their new HC.
