The offensive struggles continued for the Cleveland Browns, but Sheduer Sanders flashed more "wow" plays on Day 6 of training camp.

Day 6 of Cleveland Browns training camp was another one with full pads for the second day in a row. Similar struggles persisted for the offense.

Keep tabs on each day of training camp with our daily recaps from Berea.

Day 6 Headlines

Quarterbacks

One week into camp it's impossible to ignore where things stand between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders in their battle for QB1.

Sanders has made the most "wow" inducing throws and for a third straight day that continued. He's flatly looked like the better quarterback between the two. But it's not all pretty for the second-year signal callers.

Operationally, there are still problems, as Day 6 brought more procedural penalties for the offense, most of them with Sanders under center. He's clearly still working on that phase if his game. He did end practice on a positive, leading a two-minute drive to kick a FG  in an end-of-game situation.

Meanwhile, Deshaun Watson continues to take one step foward and two steps back. It's hard to remember the last time he followed up a good throw with another good throw and while he certainly knows how to command the huddle and offense, the execution tends to be ugly.

Then there's Dillon Gabriel, who continues to string together solid days against the third and fourth-team defenses. He did see a handful of reps with the twos as well. He also threw another pick on Tuesday, but of the three QBs he's seemed to be the most in rhythm running the offense. Could that turn into more reps with the first or second teams? Time will tell.

He Is Human

During Tuesday's 7-on-7 session, Denzel Boston proved he is human. Watson threw him a nice, pinpoint-accurate ball nearly the sideline on an out route, and he dropped it. It was the first drop of any media-attended practice dating back to the spring. Later, he wound up dropping a punt while working as a returner. What we learned on Tuesday is that Boston is in fact, human.

O-Line Roulette

With a number of guys sidelined for Day 6 the Browns had some interesting OL combos down the depth chart, but the first-team group stayed largely the same with Fano back at LT.

Tytus Howard at RT, KT Leveston at RG, Elgton Jenkins at C, Zion Johnson at LG and Dawand Jones at LT

Leveston was actually rotating with both group so he got quite a bit of run on Tuesday. He and Kingsley Eguakun rotated at RG.

Fano or Fan-Yes?

As expected, there have been some noticeable growing pains for Spencer Fano throughout the first week of training camp. There was a day when he was visibly frustrated after getting deked by Jared Verse that he started slapping himself on the helmet afterward.

Tuesday, however, felt like his best day as he looked a little more comfortable and had a few more wins than the previous day. There were still some moments when he got beat, but it's clear he's learning as he goes, which is an encouraging sign. He was also spotted after practice doing some extra work with Verse.

Special Day

Day 6 had a pretty notable emphasis on special teams with both the punt and field goal units getting some work in. Andre Szmyt had a really good practice, going 6-for-6, including hitting a 53-yarder during a field goals only session. He later nailed a FG from 33 yards out to finish practice during a two-minute offense drill.

The punters also got some work in and all three of them, Corey Bojorquez, Wes Pahl and Nik Constantinou, were all booming the ball well. Bojorquez may have some serious competition to keep his job.

Injuries and Absences

The list of injured players grows ever longer. There were the obvious ones such as DT Maliek Collins, who remains on the PUP list, and TE Joe Royer, who is away from the team for personal reasons.

Others not practicing Tuesday included LB Carson Schwesinger, CB Damarri Mathis, CB Myles Bryant, FB Michael Burton, C Kendrick Green, DT Kalia Davis, DT Mike Hall Jr. G Teven Jenkins, and another notable one was DT Mason Graham, who is dealing with something minor.

Early on in practice, DT Sam Kamara left on the cart with an injury. WR Aaron Anderson also left with an injury and was later waived with an injury designation.

Play of the Day

One of the first plays of the first 11-on-11 session of practice went no where fast, as Sanders turned to hand the ball off to Quinshon Judkins on a power run and Quincy Williams and Ronnie Hickman stuffed him in the backfield.

It was more evidence that Williams is flying around this camp. Hickman has been really good himself.

Player of the Day

Luke Floriea put together back-to-back days where he was a reliable target for all of the QBs. He's made upwards of 6-7 catches over the last two practices alone, including a play-of-the-day candidate on Tuesday on a wheel route during 7-on-7s. Much like last year, he's made his presence felt at training camp.

Quote of the Day

Todd Monken was asked about the evolution of the deep ball and where he stands on deep shots being part of their offense that they must depend on.

"You certainly have to have receivers that can go get it either by speed or by size. And then obviously there's parts of it that come from your system that tries to take advantage of being able to throw the ball down the field. I do think you're seeing less and less in terms of balls traveling over 40 yards. I think you see 40-yard gains with catching guys and run on the move more than you see actually throwing it. You're seeing more off coverage, you're seeing safeties are deeper, you're not seeing as tight at quarters. I will say this, in order to be a proficient offense, you have to be explosive, however that happens, however you get that, however you gain those throws. But certainly if you don't practice them, if you don't scheme them, you're never going to have an opportunity to really take shots down the field."

What's Next?

Day 7 will take place on Wednesday as the teams go down to just shells instead of full pads. It's another open practice. Gates open to fans 12:30 with practice commencing around 1:30.
