Here is why the Cleveland Browns should draft Carnell Tate.

The Cleveland Browns have the sixth overall pick in this year's draft and one NFL analyst believes the team can't pass on Ohio State WR Carnell Tate.

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report has urged the Browns to draft Cate if the playmaker falls to them.

"The Browns are looking to add a legitimate WR1," Sobleski wrote. "Jerry Jeudy can be an excellent option in the passing game, but he's far too inconsistent to serve as Cleveland's top option. Tate's skill set is far more reliable thanks to his ability to consistently create separation and find soft spots in zone coverage.

"Cleveland may not have its answer at quarterback, but the addition of the class' WR1 to help in the pass game will help whoever takes the snaps throughout the 2026 campaign."

For Ohio State in 2025, Tate had 51 receptions for 875 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns. He finished his college career with 121 receptions for 1,872 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns in 39 games.

Tate helped Ohio State win the championship against Notre Dame on January 20, 2025.

The Browns need more playmakers on offense. Their leading receiver last season was rookie TE Harold Fannin, who had 731 receiving yards. Tate is a fantastic route-runner and he didn't drop many passes in college. He could be a great No. 2 to Jerry Jeudy.

If Cleveland drafts Tate, we won't know until later in the year who will be throwing to him. Most people who cover the NFL believe Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders will start for the Browns next season.

Suspension and injuries have limited Watson to 19 games since he arrived in Cleveland. Since making his Browns debut, Watson has posted a 33.1 Total QBR, which would be the lowest among qualified passers.

A Clemson product, Watson has 3,365 passing yards and 19 passing touchdowns with Cleveland. He's thrown 12 interceptions.

Watson has 17,904 passing yards and 123 passing touchdowns in the NFL with the Houston Texans and Browns. He was the 12th overall pick in the 2017 draft.

It's worth mentioning that the Browns did restructure Watson's contract at the start of this month. Cleveland freed up close to $36 million in cap space and made the team cap compliant.

Watson, who did not play in 2025 as he rehabbed an Achilles tear from the 2024 season, was set to have an $80.7 million cap hit in 2026, the largest in the NFL.

Sanders finished his rookie season with 1,400 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 169 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. He went 3-4 as a starter.

Sanders was named to the Pro Bowl as a replacement selection. He's one of the most popular players in the NFL because of who his dad is: Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
