Deion Sanders expressed an affinity for Cleveland Browns front office after drafting his son, Shedeur Sanders. Plans on meeting with Todd Monken.
The Cleveland Browns top leaders often find themselves at the forefront of plenty of criticism for the continued struggles of the franchise.
For Executive Vice President of Football Operations Andrew Berry and owner Jimmy Haslam, it simply comes with the territory. But not everyone thinks those running the franchise are doing a poor job.
NFL Hall of Famer and current Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders sang the praises of both Berry and Haslam in an interview with Garrett Bush on his show The Barber Shop.
"You got a GM who I adore. Like I really do," Sanders said of Berry. "I think he gets it bad, because he's a brother for one. Secondly, because they hadn't won, but you gotta understand most of the time the GMs and head coaches are married together. But Mr. Berry, he's done a phenomenal job acquiring talent. Phenomenal to me."
Sanders cited Berry's impressive 2025 draft class, which obviously includes his son, Shedeur Sanders. The elder Sanders did express gratitude to Berry for giving his son a chance, when the rest of the league didn't.
Shedeur's pre-draft process was not without controversy. There was plenty of chatter that the Colorado product had rubbed some teams the wrong way in meetings. During his conversation with Bush, Deion rebuffed the idea that his son didn't take the pre-draft process seriously and hinted at knowing where the negative commentary came from. He wasn't willing to name any names, though.
His praise of Cleveland's front office didn't stop at Berry.
"I love the ownership," he said. "I know, 'oh they don't care,' yeah they do care. They wanna win. I know that for a fact. I'm not guessing, I know that for a fact. And I know the heart of Mr. Berry. I know his heart. And he wants to win at all costs."
From Sanders' point of view, the Browns are building something special, granted he knows they need to stabilize the quarterback position and the offensive line.
Berry spent most of the team's offseason resources rebuilding the team's o-line from scratch. Cleveland has leaned into the current QB room, which includes Shedeur, Deshaun Watson, Dillon Gabriel and 2026 pick Taylen Green, hoping one can emerge as a consistent starter.
With new head coach Todd Monken calling the shots now, there's plenty of excitement that he can get more out of a player like Shedeur than his predecessor, Kevin Stefanski could.
Like Berry and Haslam, Sanders has an affinity for Monken as well.
"God I love him. God I love him. That coach Monken is gonna make it do what it does," said Deion in the interview. "I love him, man cause he's a straight shooter. He keeps it a buck. All these little side conversations and side relationships that were had before him, he ain't into all that."
In fact, he's planning on meeting him in person at some point to give him some insight into his son, whom he coached all the way through to the NFL. Sanders made it known that he wasn't afforded an opportunity to do that with Stefanski.
"I was supposed to go to Cleveland to meet him, cause I want to meet him," said Sanders. "Cause I think it's vital that as a coach, not a Dad, I can tell him a few things about [Shedeur] to get him going. That wasn't asked of me a year ago. I don't understand it."
