New Browns HC Todd Monken Endorsed by 3 Former Colleagues cover image

Coaches and players from around the football world offer support for new Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken

With well over 30 years of coaching Todd Monken is well traveled as he prepares for his first-ever stint as an NFL head coach with the Cleveland Browns.

The 59-year-old has spent time in both the college and NFL ranks, in various roles, becoming one of the more respected offensive minds in football over the years.  Of course, he's picked up plenty of friends along the way. And while there appears to be some skepticism over Monken being the Browns head coach selection, several of his former colleagues share their personal endorsements for him.

“Todd is an outstanding coach, recently fired Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said via the Browns. "He has worked his way up and paid his dues. He was invaluable in what we did the past three years in Baltimore. He deserves this opportunity and I believe he will be successful. Todd is a good friend. I wish him all the best with the Browns."

Baltimore, of course, was the most recent stop of Monken's coaching tenure. Serving as offensive coordinator the last three years as part of Harbaugh's staff. Had Monken not been hired by Cleveland, there was plenty of speculation that he would be joining Harbaugh at his new gig with the New York Giants to serve in the same role.

Prior to teaming up with Harbaugh in 2023, Monken spent three years as the OC on Kirby Smart's staff at Georgia, helping guide the Bulldogs to two national championships.

Smart had plenty of glowing praise for Monken as he embarks on his next opportunity.

"Todd brought an exceptional level of professionalism and creativity to our program," said Smart through the team. "His ability to develop quarterbacks and craft game plans tailored to our players’ strengths was instrumental to our success. What we accomplished wouldn’t have been possible without his impact. We’re incredibly excited for Todd and Terri."

Also offering up support for Monken was ex-Browns quarterback Jameis Winston, who crossed paths with the soon-to-be 60-year-old head man in Tampa Bay from 2016-2018, while he was serving as an OC and wide receivers coach.

"Todd Monken is a tough, exciting coach that believes in empowering his players," said Winston, again, via the Browns. "I am so grateful to see his hard work and dedication payoff with him being the head football coach for the Cleveland Browns. One inspirational quote and actually a mentality that Coach Monk invited our offense to adopt was, ‘Everything Matters’ and that obsession over every meeting and every play allowed us to have success. With his leadership and passion for every little detail will align perfectly with a hungry fan base who loves their team no matter what and an exciting young roster ready to make a difference in Cleveland.”
