Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders is off to a rough start in the NFL.
The rookie has six interceptions in five games and he's completing only 52.2% of his passes.
There are many reasons why Sanders is struggling and NFL analyst Nick Shook of NFL.com believes the Colorado product's propensity for holding onto the ball too long is hurting him.
"Shedeur Sanders delivered a familiar collection of forgettable snaps and memorable throws (including two deep shots to rookie Isaiah Bond) against the Bears," Shook wrote. "He missed a few throws and had a teammate (Jerry Jeudy) fail him when Jeudy dropped Sanders' pinpoint accurate pass in the end zone, resulting in one of three interceptions. He's still holding onto the ball for too long."
Sanders struggled mightily last week against the Bears in Chicago. He threw three interceptions and the Browns scored only three points.
Overall on the season, Sanders has 946 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, six interceptions, 74 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. The youngster remains confident going forward despite his recent struggles.
"I get excited knowing I'm able to face those challenges, because you got to understand, this year right here, it's the worst it's going to be," Sanders said. "This [is] the foundation. This is where I'm building from. This is where I'm understanding different things. This [is] where everything's translating for me. So I'm excited about it. You know, I'm extremely excited about it, because I know. I know we're going to get them. I know we're going to get them eventually."
Sanders won his first NFL start against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12, but the Browns have lost their past three games against the San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans and Bears.
A winner his entire football life, Sanders wants to finish the season strong by going 3-0.
"Wins," Sanders said. "Yeah, that's the main thing. That's the thing that excites us all at the chance that we get to go out there and play football."
Sanders and Co. face Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills this Sunday. That will be a very, very tough game for Cleveland to win.
