
Former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has informed the Cleveland Browns he's withdrawing from their head coaching search ahead of a scheduled in-person interview on Wednesday, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported.
McDaniel, who remains a candidate for the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders head-coaching vacancies, is interviewing for the Los Angeles Chargers OC position and has multiple offers for an OC job.
The Browns need a new head coach after firing Kevin Stefanski, who was hired by the Atlanta Falcons. Stefanski went 45-56 in the regular season and 1-2 in the playoffs with the Browns. He won two Coach of the Year Awards.
The Browns ended the 2025 season with a 5-12 record. They are keeping Andrew Berry as the team's GM.
McDaniel went 35-33 in the regular season and 0-2 in the playoffs with the Dolphins. He coached the franchise for four seasons.
Thus far, the Browns have interviewed Jim Schwartz, Tommy Rees, Dan Pitcher, Aden Durde, Todd Monken, Nate Scheelhaase, Jesse Minter and Grant Udinski.
Cleveland has the sixth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. According to NFL.com, the Browns' biggest needs are QB, OL, WR, CB and LB.
QB Shedeur Sanders appeared in eight games for the Browns this season. He finished with 1,400 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 169 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
Sanders completed only 56.6% of his passes and went 3-4 as the starter after taking over for Dillon Gabriel.
It will be fascinating to see who is coaching the Browns next season and who the starting QB is in Week 1. Cleveland hasn't made the playoffs since the 2023 season.
