PPF doesn't believe Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders are good QBs.
Pro Football Focus clearly doesn't believe Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders of the Cleveland Browns are good quarterbacks.
Watson is ranked 32, which is last among starting QBs.
"Two torn Achilles tendons prevented Watson from taking a single snap in 2025. It was the fifth straight season in which he logged fewer than 300 dropbacks. While he has a chance to win the starting job under new head coach Todd Monken, Watson has struggled during his time in Cleveland. From 2022 to 2024, he recorded a 60.7 PFF passing grade while averaging just 6.0 yards per attempt."
If Sanders beats Watson to earn the Browns' starting QB job, he has to play better than he did last year.
"Sanders’ 42.3 PFF passing grade ranked second-worst among 43 qualifying quarterbacks. Lauded for his accuracy in college, Sanders finished the 2025 season with a 69.8% adjusted completion percentage, which ranked sixth-worst among that same group."
Sanders finished his rookie season with 1,400 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 169 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. He went 3-4 as a starter.
Meanwhile, since making his Browns debut, Watson has posted a 33.1 Total QBR, the lowest among qualified passers. The odds of the former Houston Texans star turning back the clock after an Achilles tear are pretty low, which is why many NFL pundits believe Cleveland should start Shedeur so the team can fully evaluate him for an entire season.
Watson has 3,365 passing yards and 19 passing touchdowns with Cleveland. He's thrown 12 interceptions.
The Browns will use training camp and the preseason to determine who will start Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Most Cleveland fans want Sanders to start because Watson has been terrible since getting traded to the Browns. He also dealt with off-the-field stuff.
When Watson tore his Achilles, many Browns fans cheered. That should tell you everything about how Cleveland fans regard Watson.
Some people in the NFL believe the Brown are best suited to be putrid again in 2026 so that they can get a top pick in the 2027 and select Arch Manning or Dante Moore. Let's see what happens.
