Left tackle Dawand Jones went down in the first quarter after getting low-blocked by Packers’ defensive back, Javon Bullard.
Jones’ knee was hyperextended and had to be helped off the field – ruling him out for the rest of the game.
Unfortunately for both Jones and the Browns, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Jones will have to undergo knee surgery and will be gone for the season.
We’re three weeks into the season and Cleveland’s offensive line has been getting decimated.
Right tackle Jack Conklin missed the game against Green Bay with an elbow injury that limited him in practice. Left guard Joel Bitonio did play, but he didn’t practice at all because of a back injury.
Conklin’s status for Week 4 is currently unknown, but the loss of Jones puts the outside of the line in serious risk.
Tackle Cornelius Lucas stepped in for Conklin during Week 3, so it’s uncertain if Lucas will step in and replace Jones now. If Stefanski opts to keep Lucas on the right side, it opens the door for KT Leveston.
Jones was having a rough season to start off. He was one of the lowest graded offensive tackles in football via PFF, with a 33.4 overall grade, with his run-blocking being second worst in all of the league.
Not only that, he committed penalties at a bottom-five rate, while allowing eight total pressures. The silver lining was that he didn’t let up a sack.
Regardless, it’ll be a long road for the 24-year old to recover and get back on the wagon for the 2026 season.
For the Browns, despite the win, it’s still tumultuous times. Quarterback Joe Flacco admitted to the press that the boos his team received from the fans because of poor performance hurt, but as a pro, he has to move on from it.
“You’re human. There’s a piece of you in there that it hurts you a little bit. You want to react to it, but you can’t. I talk about it a lot. That’s being a pro in this sport. You can’t be that guy. You will not survive. But yeah, we’re all human. I’m sure that affects people in not a positive way, but you’ve got to be able to rally and at least fake it, and then go out there and bring it to life."
Coming up in Week 4, Cleveland will take on the Detroit Lions in the Motor City at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
