As the Cleveland Browns take the field to face the Chicago Bears in their preseason opener, several notable starters won't be suiting up for the contest.
Todd Monken revealed his plans for the Cleveland Browns first preseason game against the Chicago Bears earlier in the week. He plans on playing his starters for at least the first series of the game, then making substitutions based on what the Bears do with their starters.
The one exception to that is Deshaun Watson, who will start under center in a game for the first time since he ruptured his Achilles in October of 2024. Monken would like to play Watson for the first half, but that could be subject to change.
While he's out there with the starters, though, it will provide Monken and company a great opportunity to further evaluate where his team is at leading up to the 2026 campaign.
Still, a healthy number of players, and likely starters, won't be suiting up for Cleveland when the game kicks off at 1 p.m., mostly because of injury.

The notable names on the list are reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year, Schwesinger and starting cornerback, Campbell.
Others include Collins, who is on the physically unable to perform list with a quad injury, rotational defensive tackle Hall Jr., rookie center Brailsford and veteran wide receiver Cedric Tillman, who is very much on the roster bubble.
