The Cleveland Browns have a new special teams coordinator as Todd Monken tabbed Packers assistant special teams coordinator Byron Storer for the role

Bubba Ventrone oversaw some pretty miserable special teams units for the Cleveland Browns over the last two years.

Now, new head coach Todd Monken has found Ventrone's replacement. Green Bay Packers assistant special teams coordinator Byron Storer has been hired to fill Cleveland's special teams coordinator vacancy.

Storer has spent the last four seasons with Green Bay in that aforementioned role, working closely alongside Rich Bisaccia, who has held the top special teams title during that same span. Storer also held the same role under Bisaccia in Oakland, and ultimately Las Vegas when the Raiders made their move to the desert.

This marks the first time in Storer's career that he'll be the outright special teams coordinator. He was also an assistant ST coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2010-2011 and with the then San Diego Chargers in 2012. He spent one seasons with the Chargers as a linebackers coach in 2013.

He had a very short career in the NFL as a fullback for the Bucs, spanning just three seasons from 2007-2009.

With Storer joining the fold, Monken has just about filled out his entire staff, leaving on major hole to fill at defensive coordinator due to Jim Schwartz's departure last week. After being passed over for the Browns head coaching job, Schwartz reportedly left the team facility in a blaze of glory vowing he would not be sticking around as DC.

Fixing the Browns kick and punt coverage units will be one of the top priorities for Storer. In 2025, the Browns were one of only six teams that yielded a kickoff return touchdown, and one of only three teams to give up two punt return touchdowns.

Storer will also continue to build on upon Ventrone's work with young kicker Andre Szmyt who had a productive first season with the Browns in 2025. Szmyt went 23-of-25 on field goal attempts last season, hitting a dramatic game-winning kick in Week 18 to earn Cleveland's fifth win of the season.

The Browns will have to decide what to do with long-time punter Corey Bojorquez as well, who is a free agent, but experienced a slight drop-off last season.
