The Cleveland Browns have suddenly emerged as a potential landing spot for quarterback Ty Simpson, and Simpson is already being warned about playing there.

The Cleveland Browns own a pair of picks in the first round of the NFL Draft, holding the No. 6 and 24 overall selections next month.

While the general consensus has long been that the Browns will not be taking a quarterback in Round 1, there has been some recent buzz regarding Alabama's Ty Simpson potentially being a target for Cleveland.

Simpson had a strong NFL Scouting Combine and has seen his stock — which had previously been tanking — rise as a result, and now, there is even speculation the Browns could take him as high as No. 6.

ESPN's Todd McShay mentioned the possibility during an appearance on the Up & Adams Show, and he fears for Simpson if he does, in fact, end up in Cleveland.

"I’m already starting to hear people like, 'could he go as high as Cleveland, sitting at 6?,'" McShay said. "I hope for Ty Simpson, he does not become a Cleveland Brown. They don’t have the protection. They don’t have the weapons."

McShay definitely makes a salient point.

The Browns are lacking in virtually every area right now. Their offensive line is a mess, and outside of Jerry Jeudy (who struggled mightily in 2025, mind you), Cleveland doesn't have anyone of note in its wide receiver room.

Yes, the Browns do have stud tight end Harold Fannin Jr., and running back Quinshon Judkins could be a breakout candidate next season, but Simpson — or any quarterback — will need more wide receivers in Cleveland.

The Browns could always draft a receiver and sign one in free agency, but they don't have the friendliest cap situation, and good luck convincing any top wide out to voluntarily join the team at this point.

More than likely, Cleveland will go with an offensive tackle or a wide receiver with the sixth overall pick and then address another position at No. 24.

It seems rather doubtful that the Browns would take Simpson so early, especially with next year's quarterback class setting up to be a doozy (then again, we heard that about the 2026 class last year).

Simpson comes with numerous red flags.

He doesn't have elite arm strength, he isn't incredibly athletic and he made just 15 starts in college, which is generally a recipe for disaster in the NFL.

Cleveland should probably stay away from Simpson, just like Simpson should try to stay away from the Browns.
