The Cleveland Browns secondary will be short-handed in their home opener against the Carolina Panthers in Week 3
The Cleveland Browns have had a relatively healthy first few weeks of the season. But week three brought some troubling injuries in the secondary with safety Grant Delpit and cornerback Tyson Campbell entering the weekend as questionable.
Sunday morning brought positive updates for the duo, though, as both are active for Cleveland in their home opener against the Carolina Panthers.
Delpit popped up on the team's practice report this week with a shoulder injury, but indicated on Friday that he'd be ready to go for Sunday. Now that's official.
Meanwhile, Campbell has spent the last two weeks on the Browns injury due to an ankle injury, but also had knee and hip ailments emerge this week. That left him also being tagged with a questionable designation for Week 3, keeping his status in doubt.
After going through a pre-game warm-up to test out both injuries, though, the 26-year-old was ruled out for the game. How the Browns reshuffle their secondary without Campbell will be revealed at kickoff, but there are a few different options.
It's likely that Myles Harden, who normally operates in the slot, will bump outside to occupy the spot, leaving Noah Igbinoghene as an option to fill the nickel CB spot. Mike Rutenberg could also opt for running more three-safety looks with Delpit, Ronnie Hickman and rookie Emmanuel McNeil-Warren seeing more playing time.
The only other player who entered the weekend with some sort of designation was veteran guard Teven Jenkins, who was ruled out for a third straight week as he battles a back injury that he suffered at practice leading into Week 1.
His replacement remains rookie Austin Barber, who has played extremely well for the Browns through the first two weeks of the season and will likely retain the job even once Jenkins is healthy.
Rookie quarterback Taylen Green is inactive but will once again serve as the team's emergency third QB.
The full list of inactive players includes:
CB Tyson Campbell
QB Taylen Green (emergency 3rd QB)
LB Justin Jefferson
C Parker Brailsford
G Teven Jenkins
Cleveland is looking to make it two wins in a row and two wins against the NFC South after an emotional 23-19 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend.
The Browns home opener kicks off around 1 pm from Huntington Bank Field.
