Cleveland’s depleted interior defensive line faces a grueling test in the rain against the New York Jets, as the Browns turn to multiple practice squad elevations along the D-line.
The Cleveland Browns already knew they'd be without star defensive tackle Mason Graham on Sunday, when they battle the New York Jets looking to improve to 4-1 for the first time since 2020.
Graham headlined a somewhat hefty list of players who were ruled out by the Browns following practice on Friday. It also includes top rotational DT Mike Hall Jr., WR Tylan Wallace, G Teven Jenkins and rookie TE Carsen Ryan.
There was some hope that DT Kalia Davis could potentially return as reinforcement this week off the IR, but after practicing just once this week, he wound up being ruled out as well. Both Davis and QB Dillon returned to practice off the IR this week, but neither was activated to the 53-man roster ahead of Sunday.
The onslaught of injuries paved the way for the Browns to use both of their weekly practice squad elevations to bolster their shorthanded defensive interior, promoting DTs Chris Williams and Sam Kamara on Saturday. Both players will be active for the Browns against NY.
Kamara is in his sixth season in the NFL, and his fourth consecutive season with the Browns. He spent most of the 2025 campaign on the team's practice squad and has been a member of the practice squad again in these first five weeks of 2026. In 22 career games played, Kamara has made 32 total tackles, including three for a loss.
Williams, meanwhile, is a 2020 undrafted rookie, who has bounced around quite a bit throughout his career. He's spent time mostly on the practice squad for the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons and now twice for the Cleveland Browns.
He's played 44 games since entering the league, compiling 44 tackles and four sacks. This will be the first time he'll actually be made active for the Browns in his two stints with the franchise.
The injured group makes up the majority of Cleveland's inactive list for Week 5:
QB Taylen Green (Emergency 3rd QB)
C Parker Brailsford
DT Mason Graham
DT Mike Hall Jr.,
WR Tylan Wallace,
G Teven Jenkins
TE Carsen Ryan.
As noted, rookie signal caller, Green, will be inactive for a fifth consecutive week, while serving as the team's emergency third QB if both Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders were to get hurt.
The Browns and Jets will kick things off from what is expected to be a rain-soaked day at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, at 1 p.m.
