Todd Monken brings a new perspective to the Cleveland Browns offense as these three stats from his time as the Baltimore Ravens OC should leave fans optimistic about the future
Todd Monken comes to Cleveland with plenty of hope as he attempts to turn around one of the NFL's worst offenses. The Browns roster shortcomings are well-documented, from the wide receiver room to the offensive line.
The makeover is likely to start at those two areas, as Monken will have his hands full building a competent offense. History suggests he's plenty capable of doing that and then some.
Fans can look no further than his last three years as the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator to see the true potential that the 59-year-old can unlock on that side of the ball.
Here are three stats that should get Browns fans excited about Monken coming to Cleveland:
1) No. 1 in Rushing
This one is hardly a secret, but in three years overseeing the Ravens' offense, Monken's unit was No. 1 in rushing in two out of three seasons (156.4 in 2023, 192.8 in 2024). It was second in 2025, behind only the Buffalo Bills. Additionally, Baltimore topped the league in yards per rush attempt each of the last two years.
Now, obviously, it helped that Monken had one of the best rushing tandems in football in Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, two of the last three years. It's telling, though, that Henry had a Renaissance campaign in 2024, rushing for nearly 2,000 yards to go along with 16 touchdowns. This past season wasn't too shabby either, where he racked up 1,595 yardsand another 16 TDs.
Clearly, the run game was a priority in Monken's recent offenses, and that should continue in Cleveland with Quinshon Judkins. The second-round pick should be at the forefront of providing the offense with an actual identity.
2) Scoring Not a Problem
Scoring was hard to come by for the Browns in 2025, when the Browns averaged a meager 16.4 points per game this past season. That ranked second-worst in the league. In Baltimore, meanwhile, Monken's unit was averaging a much more respectable 24.9 points per game, which fell just outside the top 10.
2025 was actually a down year for the Ravens offense, too. Largely due to Jackson being in-and-out of the starting lineup because of injury. In the previous two years, that figure eclipsed 30 points in 2024 and 28 points in 2023.
The Ravens offenses were some of the highest scoring in football during Monken's time there, which comes with some exciting potential of what could be here in Cleveland.
3) Personnel Matters
So much has been said about Monken's offense being malleable to its players, but that doesn't mean he hasn't favored certain personnel groupings over the years.
While Kevin Stefanski's offense leaned on a lot of 12 personnel (two tight end sets), Monken used a handful of unique looks in Baltimore. In 2025, the Ravens also ran a ton of 12 personnel, doing so at a rate of 35.9%. They ran the third most 21 personnel (two running back sets) at a rate of 18.6%, a well.
Additionally, they're 8.3% clip of running 22 personnel (two running backs and two tight ends) was fourth highest in the league. Baltimore ran 11 personnel (one running back and one tight end) at a league low 29.9%.
Get ready for some creative sets that get some of the Browns' best skill players the ball with opportunities to make things happen.
