Deshaun Watson faces a short leash with Shedeur Sanders breathing down his neck. Dive into projected start totals for all four of the Cleveland Browns quarterbacks in 2026.

Cleveland Browns fans are no strangers to watching three or more quarterbacks start games for their favorite team in any given season. In each of the last three seasons that's been the case, including a whopping five different signal callers starting games in 2024.

This year, first-year head Todd Monken began training camp in the thick of a quarterback competition between veteran Deshaun Watson and 2025 fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders. When the dust finally settled, Watson was named the initial starter, but like any roster spot in football, it's subject to change.

Meanwhile, Cleveland managed to keep all four quarterbacks from the offseason 90-man roster, including 2025 third-round pick Dillon Gabriel, who was placed on the IR on cut-down day, and rookie Taylen Green.

As the saying goes, when you have four quarterbacks, you don't have one, so nobody should be surprised if all four quarterbacks suit up to start a game for the Browns this season.

If they do, how long of a leash will each signal caller get? Let's project some over/unders for each.

Deshaun Watson O/U: 3.5

This may be the hardest number to project. Some believe Watson is a sacrificial lamb of sorts for the first two games of the season, as Cleveland heads to Florida for back-to-back games. Depending on how those two games go, Watson could be returning home to start under center to a chorus of boos at Huntington Bank Field.

Ultimately, Monken doesn't appear to be the type of coach who is going to overreact to one or two games and will want to give his starter some time to work out the kinks. 3.5 feels about right, especially with a short week leading into a Thursday Night Football matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.

The "mini-bye" could be the perfect time to make a change if things still aren't going well about a quarter of the way into the season. Then again, Monken has also said he hates "s**tty football" so maybe if things are really bad these first two weeks, he would pull the plug.

Shedeur Sanders O/U: 9.5

With many people anticipating a short hook for Watson, the next natural thought is that Sanders then takes over with a longer runway to prove whether or not he's developed enough to potentially be a franchise QB.

Frankly, the Browns owe it to themselves to give Sanders as many games as possible to fully get that answer this season. If Watson plays about 3 games, maybe 4, it feels reasonable to account for the next 10 games to go to Sanders, in order to fully evaluate him.

Therefore, 9.5 is the figure here, but it certainly could be more if he plays well. In that case, take the over.

Dillon Gabriel O/U: 1.5

First things first, for Gabriel, he has to get healthy and return off the IR. Then, once he's back the Browns will have a decision on their hands. Will they activate him to the 53 and actually keep four quarterbacks during the regular season? Or will they shop him around to a potential QB-needy team that may reveal itself mid-season?

Of course, there's always the possibility that someone else in this room gets hurt, and he ends up swapping places on the active roster with one of the other QBs. Assuming Gabriel returns to the active roster, though, he very well could be in line to play at least a few games this season. 1.5 feels like the right number if Cleveland ends up wanting to get a last look at Gabriel before some potentially seismic QB decisions loom.

Taylen Green O/U: 1.5

Like so many young quarterbacks who have come before him in Cleveland, Taylen Green is in line to get the table scraps at the end of a lost season to show what he can do. It feels inevitable that Green would be in line to start the Browns' season finale, so Berry and company can get a sense of how far he's come in his development and where he fits in the team's QB plan for 2027.

That said, he could end up playing multiple games at the end of the season depending on how this team handles the QB room once Gabriel returns. An O/U of 1.5 seems appropriate here.
