The veteran tackle joins Todd Bowles’ complex system, bringing elite versatility to an overhauled front seven designed to pressure quarterbacks and stifle offenses from every defensive alignment.

To say the Tampa Bay Buccaneers loaded up on defense this offseason would be a massive understatement.

The Bucs used four of their first five draft picks on defensive players. Tampa also made several notable defensive additions during free agency and was especially praised for its moves to strengthen the linebacker position.

One of the Bucs' key free agent signings, DT A'Shawn Robinson, is thrilled to be a part of Tampa's aggressive defense. With Todd Bowles calling the shots, Robinson believes his talents, especially his positional versatility, will be maximized in Tampa.

Although the Bucs already have a formidable duo of DTs in Vita Vea and Calijah Kancey, Robinson knows that he brings immense value by being being able to line up all over the defensive line.

"I can be anywhere," Robinson said. "I can be on the edge, in the nose, in the three, in a nine. I could be literally anywhere. That's what makes it fun knowing your strengths in those certain things that he's calling."

Robinson Playing At High Level

Even though Robinson is already 31 years old, he is still playing at a high level. Robinson spent the last two seasons with the Carolina Panthers, where he racked up 145 total tackles and eight sacks.

The 10-year veteran is eager to showcase his skills as a key piece of Todd Bowles' defense. Being able to make plays from anywhere along the d-line makes Robinson so much more valuable than just a depth option. His experience will allow him to see a significant amount of snaps, no matter what alignment the defense uses.

Excited To Be In Tampa

Since entering the NFL in 2016 with the Detroit Lions, Robinson has also spent time with the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants. However, he believes the Bucs' aggressive style is the best fit for him yet. After an offseason workout, Robinson spoke to reporters, saying,

"I've played in a lot of defenses, and I've played in a lot of different spots. This defense is complex, but it's also a defense that you want to be in if you're a defensive lineman. You're going to be aggressive; you're going to put offensive linemen in certain binds. It's going to let you be active according to the system that we're playing."

Final Thoughts

Robinson has been one of the NFL's most underrated defensive linemen throughout his career. He has amassed 500 total tackles in his 10 seasons, ranking near the top of all linemen. Robinson also won a Super Bowl during his time with the Rams.

Now in Tampa, Robinson is chomping at the bit to show he still has a lot left in the tank. Under Bowles, who has a reputation as one of the NFL's top defensive coaches, Robinson believes he can reach an even higher level.

Robinson will certainly be an important member of Tampa's defense in 2026. His ability to line up at multiple spots creates mismatches. Robinson's presence will also open up opportunities for the other linemen to make plays.

While not Tampa's most-hyped acquisition this offseason, Robinson can prove to be one of its best.
