A player who won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a player and now is one of the game's most prominent analysts is a fan of the team hiring Zac Robinson as offensive coordinator.
"Good hire," Booger McFarland posted to X. "Tampa has better weapons overall than Atlanta and offense was never an issue there even with inconsistent qb play. Zac loves to run the ball also."
Whether or not the Bucs have "better weapons overall" than the Atlanta Falcons, for whom Robinson was the offensive coordinator for the past two seasons, is up for debate.
The Falcons do have Bijan Robinson, who has rushed for 1,400+ yards in each of the last two seasons, Drake London, who had almost 1,300 yards receiving in 2024, and Kyle Pitts, who was second in the league in receiving amongst tight ends this past season.
But McFarland is right in that Zac Robinson loves to run the ball, and that's evidenced by the rise of Bijan Robinson.
In 2023, Robinson had 214 carries as a rookie.
The next season, Zac Robinson's first as OC, his usage increased to 304.
Robinson's usage went down slightly this past season, from 304 carries to 287. But Robinson had more yards than he did in 2024, going from 1,456 to 1,478. The only other running back to have 1,400+ yards in each of the last two seasons is Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens.
Tampa Bay has a quality back of its own in Bucky Irving.
Injuries limited Irving to 10 games this season, but as a rookie in 2024, he was fantastic, rushing for 1,112 yards, eight touchdowns and averaging 5.4 yards per carry.
Irving is on the brink of being a franchise player, and Robinson can help him get there if his health holds up.
The Bucs have another quality young player in receiver Emeka Egbuka.
Egbuka was one of the most productive rookies in the league this season, going for 938 yards and six touchdowns on 63 receptions. Robinson helped London have the best year of his career in his first year as OC, and if he can do the same with Egbuka, the Bucs offense could be formidable again.
