Could the Bucs Make an Aggressive Trade for Trey McBride?
Jul 5, 2026 10:04 PM

As injury concerns and low rankings plague Tampa Bay’s offensive arsenal, an audacious trade for Arizona’s All-Pro tight end could transform the roster into a legitimate powerhouse.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offense has a chance to be good in 2026.

It also has a lot of question marks.

Several of the Bucs' key offensive players, such as wide receivers Chris Godwin Jr. and Jalen McMillan, as well as running back Bucky Irving, have concerning injury histories. Counting on all of them to remain healthy for the entire season may be risky.

Four of Tampa's five starting offensive linemen each missed significant time in 2025 with their own injuries. If healthy, they can be one of the best offensive lines in the league.

If healthy. Everything the Bucs can accomplish this year has that caveat attached.

The concerns about Tampa's offense reaching its potential are real, and a big reason why ESPN has the Bucs' stable of offensive weapons (RBs, WRs, TEs) ranked only 22nd of the NFL's 32 teams.

A recent trade proposition could fix a lot of the issues Tampa's offense may have to overcome in 2026.

Mason Riney of Buccaneers Wire proposed the idea of the Bucs making a trade for All-Pro tight end Trey McBride of the Arizona Cardinals. McBride is one of the most productive TEs in the NFL, and adding him to Tampa's offense could unlock a whole new level. Maybe even a couple of new levels.

Could McBride Be Available?

McBride is one of the best players in the entire NFL, coming in at number 18 in Pete Prisco's rankings of the top 100 players in the league.

The All-Pro is coming off a season in which he had 126 receptions, the second-most in the NFL, 1,239 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns. McBride has firmly established himself as one of the top weapons in the game.

Could the Cardinals really make McBride available?

Garrett Podell of CBS Sports wrote an article listing five NFL superstars who could be seeking a change of scenery. McBride made his list.

Podell believes McBride will allow the Cardinals a chance to solve their quarterback issues by taking one early in the 2027 NFL Draft. However, for a team in full rebuild mode like Arizona, the package it could receive for McBride would be a great way to jump-start that rebuild.

Tampa Would Be Logical Landing Spot

If the Cardinals were to trade McBride, Tampa would be a logical landing spot.

The Bucs have several terrific offensive pieces already in place. Baker Mayfield (assuming he is extended) gives the team a franchise QB. Irving can be one of the most explosive RBs in the league. WR Emeka Egbuka is a rising young star.

McBride could be the final piece of the puzzle for a Super Bowl-caliber offense.

Final Thoughts

McBride has spent his entire NFL career with the Cardinals and has endured a lot of losing recently. If 2026 is another lost season for Arizona, as expected, the superstar TE could ask for a trade.

If Tampa could find a way to acquire McBride, the offense would have the potential to be one of the very best in the league.
