After shattering sack records and leading Louisville to a championship, the relentless pass rusher eyes an NFL return, potentially reuniting with the team where his career began.

Louisville Kings outside linebacker Cam Gill played his last game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023; three years later, the UFL crowned him as its 2026 Defensive Player of the Year.

Gill was a quarterback's worst nightmare, as he set a single-season sack record with 10 and had three multi-sack performances. He earned nods to the All-UFL team and received MVP consideration.

The former Buccaneer signed with the Kings ahead of the 2026 season, and he played a significant role in the team's championship run. Louisville defeated the DC Defenders, 27-20, to take home the United Bowl title.

Now, Gill has the opportunity to make a return to the NFL after one year out of the league. Many UFL players have signed contracts with various teams after breakout years.

Houston Gamblers safety Major Burns, who also made the All-UFL team, signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins on Monday evening. Players who haven't signed are working out with teams to earn spots on their respective rosters.

The 28-year-old started his NFL career at Tampa Bay in 2020, signing with the team as an undrafted free agent. He spent most of his snaps on special teams, but had some production in a Buccaneers uniform.

Gill recorded 29 tackles (16 solo), 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble in three seasons. He recorded 0.5 sacks against Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LV, his rookie season.

The former Wagner Seahawk was on the Carolina Panthers and Detroit Lions practice squads in 2024 before earning a roster spot with the Panthers. He posted a career year tackling in Carolina, recording 22 tackles (six solo).

Gill spent no more than one season with the Panthers and tried to earn a roster spot with the Minnesota Vikings in the 2025 offseason. He did not make the team, leading to his debut with Louisville several months later.

The former Buccaneer carved out a significant role with the Kings in their historic inaugural season. As a result, he could join the flurry of UFL players working out for NFL teams to contribute at the highest level.

Tampa Bay added pass-rushing depth with Rueben Bain Jr. and Al-Quadin Muhammad, but exploring a reunion with Gill could strengthen its attack. Gill had high praise for coach Todd Bowles defensive scheme three years ago, saying it's fun to line up at various positions and rush the quarterback.

Gill has the chance to bring his pass-rushing chops back to the NFL, whether it's with Tampa Bay or another team.
