The NFL's regular-season finale kicks off with high-stakes drama as the Carolina Panthers (8-8) travel to Raymond James Stadium to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-9) this Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026.
Just two weeks after their tense week 16 meeting in Charlotte, where the Panthers secured a narrow 23-20 victory. The two rivals meet again with the NFC South crown hanging in the balance. For Carolina, the mission is simple win and they are in. For Tampa Bay, the road is more treacherous, requiring a victory Saturday and a bit of help Sunday.
The Path to the Division Title:
The NFC South has been a roller coaster this year. The math has finally crystalized for the season finale:
* Carolina Panthers: A win on Saturday clinches their first division title since 2015. Even with a loss, they could still back into the playoffs depending on tiebreakers involving the Falcons.
* Tampa Bay Buccaneers: to keep their hopes for 5th straight division title alive, our Bucs must win on Saturday and hope the New Orleans Saints defeat the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
Matchup to Watch: Mike Evans vs. Michael Jackson
If the Bucs are to snap their current four-game losing streak, they will likely need a vintage performance from Mike Evans. Historically, Evans has feasted on Carolina throughout his career. He has amassed more yards (1,726) and touchdowns (15) against the Panthers than against any other opponent.
However, he faces a formidable challenge in Panthers' cornerback Michael Jackson, who leads the NFL with 19 passes defended this season.
Jackson's length and physical style at the line of scrimmage were key in limiting the Bucs explosive plays their previous meeting. If Jackson can neutralize Evans again, the Bucs struggling offense may find itself stuck in the mud.
Baker Mayfield needs to get back to playing like during his MVP caliber bid during the first half of the season. Making better decisions with his throws as well.
Injury Report:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without key defensive pieces James Dean (Shoulder) and Anthony Nelson (knee). On a positive note, star tackle Tristan Wirfs is expected to play through his toe injury, providing much-needed protection for Baker Mayfield, who is dealing with a shoulder and knee soreness.
Carolina Panthers are dealing with a thin linebacking corps after Claudin Cherelus was ruled out. They will rely on veteran Krys Barnes step up alongside Christian Rozeboom to contain Bucky Irving and the Bucs run game.
The Verdict: Will the Streak Continue?
The Bucs are desperate. They haven't won a game in December, and Todd Bowles' squad is fighting for its playoff lives.
Meanwhile Bryce Young and the Panthers have played "spoiler" all month and now find themselves on the verge of a historic turnaround.
How about the Bucs making a stand at home! Maybe if the Saints can corral the Falcons. The Bucs can have the division again on Sunday night.
The game will be played on Saturday at 4:25 pm, broadcast on ABC and ESPN.
