The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' run game has looked the part as one of the top rushing units in the NFL over the past few weeks, with the 1-2 punch of Kenneth Gainwell and Bucky Irving paying dividends.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a big opportunity to vault to the top of the NFC South on Sunday, taking on the Atlanta Falcons.
The Bucs are yet to win a game at home this season, but are coming off a dominant victory over the division-leading Carolina Panthers.
The run game dictated the time of possession and moved the chains for the Bucs' offense, with Bucky Irving and Kenneth Gainwell combining for over 200 yards on the ground.
Gainwell, who had been limited on the ground through the opening six weeks, had his best game of the season, recording 88 rushing yards on 14 carries.
On Friday, the veteran tailback joined The Jim Rome Show to talk about the win, and what he saw from his team.
"I most definitely think we turned the corner on that..." Gainwell said. "If we keep that going, I don't see anyone beating us."
Gainwell went onto say that he has seen the offense and defense clicking on a new level over the past few weeks, with both facets playing to their strengths.
For Gainwell, he has fit nicely alongside Irving, helping keep Tampa's lead back fresh and explosive.
Against Carolina, Gainwell exploded for a 28-yard gain, by far his longest of the season.
Towards the end of the run, Gainwell executed an impressive stiff arm, gaining additional yardage and earning cheers from the sideline.
"People look at me as a small guy but I have a lot of power," Gainwell said when asked about the run.
Starting quarterback Baker Mayfield is one player who has been very complimentary of Gainwell, telling media that he was "completely overwhelmed" by the talent he possesses during training camp.
Mayfield talked about Gainwell's transition from being a receiver during his early college days at Memphis being one of the reasons he looks so "smooth" in his routes.
He also reads his blocks well, according to Mayfield, who called Gainwell a "leader" and someone who can help set the tone on offense.
Last season, Gainwell was one of the top receiving backs in the NFL, serving as Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers' top option out of the backfield.
He signed a two-year, $14 million deal with Tampa this offseason, and is beginning to make a big impact.
Sunday's matchup with the Falcons provides a big challenge, however, with the Atlanta rushing defense ranking within the top-5 in the NFL.
The Bucs host the Falcons at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday with an opportunity to get atop the NFC South for the first time this season.
