Cardinals are moving on and in a new direction after disappointing tenure for Jonathan Gannon.

The Arizona Cardinals have fired Coach Jonathan Gannon as reported by ESPN after a very disappointing three-year tenure that ended in a 3-14 record and a nine-game losing streak. This was Gannon's third season as the Arizona Cardinals head coach, with an overall record of 15-36.

Gannon was signed to a five-year contract with the Cardinals after a very successful run as the defensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles. The expectations were high but as the Cardinals look to head in a new direction, that will be one without Coach Gannon.

The Cardinals got off to a shaky start with coach Gannon, going 4-13 in his first season as the head coach in 2023. Following that season Gannon went 8-9, an improvement in 2024.

Although the injuries for the Cardinals had a lot to do with coach Gannon's lack of success, there was too many close games where Gannon was just out coached.

Losing 13 out of 14 of the Cardinals final games was the straw the broke the camel's back.

Coach Jonathan Gannon had publicly stated he was very confident in keeping his job, telling reports that he felt "good" about his future with the team, even with all the speculation.

In late December coach Gannon expressed a return in 2026 was surely happening.

There was on and off field controversies for Jonathan Gannon, fined $100,000 by the Cardinals for an on-sideline altercation with running back Emari Demercado, which created friction between coach and player.

Gannon did later apologize to Demercado and the team as a whole. Some critics have stated that Gannon had a problem with disciplining, as well as schematic confusion put more pressure on an already struggling team.

General Manager Monti Ossenfort has led the team's roster construction efforts and will be the one in charge of the "hunt" for a new coach.
