The Los Angeles Chargers received positive news ahead of their MNF showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles as they activated running back Omarion Hampton from IR.
The Los Angeles Chargers will get a boost at the right time ahead of a crucial Monday Night Football contest against the Philadelphia Eagles. The team officially activated rookie running back Omarion Hampton from IR, and he is expected to play and be a potential difference-maker. With the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the Houston Texans that all but knocked the Chiefs out of the AFC West race, Hampton’s return comes at a critical time as the 8-4 Chargers look to catch the 11-2 Denver Broncos as they return to fuller strength.
Hampton fractured his ankle in Week 5 in Los Angeles’ loss to the Washington Commanders and was placed on injured reserve after, forcing him to miss four games. He missed nearly twice that in the last seven contests, and the rookie could stand to have an impact night that helps the Chargers climb up the AFC West. He has 66 carries this season for 314 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and 20 receptions for 136 yards. His activation will help against a defense allowing the No. 10 most rushing yards per game, while Los Angeles has been the No. 12 offense in rush yards per game through 13 weeks.
Here is the full story from Chargers Roundtable writer Brad Magsam on Hampton’s activation and the value he brings to a still depleted offense.
Los Angeles also activated Hassan Haskins, and Otito Ogbonnia, though they still are without both star offensive tackles. They need every reinforcement they can get if they hope to clinch a playoff spot. They aren’t close to catching Denver yet, but 9-4 would be good enough for a wildcard spot through Week 14. Every win helps them catch up to the Broncos’ 11.
By activating Hampton, along with Haskins and Ogbonnia, they used all of their regular-season return-from-IR designations. As they since placed tight end Tucker Fisk on injured reserve, Fisk would only be available to return for a possible postseason run. By also not activating a quarterback from the practice squad, that bodes well for Justin Herbert and how he should look in this game, with Trey Lance being ready to step in if needed.
