ESPN FPI simulated the NFL season. One simulation had the Chargers in the Super Bowl. NFL analyst Seth Walder wrote the following of the Chargers' projected AFC championship win over the Buffalo Bills.
"Buffalo's defense more than held its own, but Los Angeles scored just enough to win 10-7 on the road to get Jim Harbaugh back to the Super Bowl for the first time in 14 years."
The simulation had the Chargers falling to the Detroit Lions in the Super Bowl.
