The Los Angeles Chargers lost a second consecutive home game as the Las Vegas Raiders came out on top with a 26-14 victory.
The Los Angeles Chargers took on the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at SoFi Stadium, which ended in a 24-14 win for the Raiders in Week 2.
With the game now over, let's take a look at what happened throughout the contest and led to the win for the Raiders over the Chargers on Sunday afternoon.
To start the game, quarterback Justin Herbert drove the Chargers drove down the field, but kicker Cameron Dicker missed a 58-yard field goal.
The next possession, Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins was intercepted by cornerback Cam Hart, which helped the Chargers prevent the Raiders from putting up points.
After that, the Chargers and Raiders both punted once as both defenses made some plays to get off the field.
Then Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was intercepted by Raiders defensive back Hezekiah Masses which set Las Vegas up with a short field. However, the Raiders did not capitalize as the turned it over on downs.
Following the turnover on downs, the Chargers were forced to punt which put the Raiders at about midfield and with that field position Las Vegas capitalized as Cousins completed a 51-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tre Tucker to put the Raiders in front 7-0.
The Chargers were then able to respond as Herbert connected with Ladd McConkey to convert a key third down and then Los Angeles really leaned on running back Omarion Hampton as he had several carries on the drive and ended up punching one of those runs into the end zone to knot the game at 7-7.
After that the Chargers and Raiders each punted the ball once before Las Vegas was able to march the ball down the field at the end of the half which allowed Raiders kicker Matt Gay to put Las Vegas up 10-7.
Following the field goal drive from the Raiders, the Chargers kneeled the ball down to end the first half.
In the third quarter, the Raiders started with the ball, but had to punt, which then gave the Chargers the ball back, and Los Angeles was able to respond with a 53-yard pass from Herbert to wide receiver Tre'Harris to get them in the red zone, and then Herbert threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to tight end Oronde Gadsden to put the Chargers up 14-10.
After the Los Angeles response, Las Vegas punched right back as they drove the ball down the field, with the drive ending in a 13-yard touchdown pass from Cousins to Cody White, which put the Raiders back in the lead 17-14.
Following the touchdown drives by each team, the Raiders and Chargers both punted twice as the offenses stalled a little bit.
The Chargers then turned the ball over as Hampton fumbled which set the Raiders up on a short field and Las Vegas took advantage of it as Cousins threw his second touchdown to Cody White to extend the Raiders lead to 24-14.
After that, Herbert was intercepted by Masses for the second time in the game, which was very devastating for the Chargers.
Following the turnover, the Raiders ran the ball with running back Ashton Jeanty to force the Chargers to use the rest of their timeouts and then after that Las Vegas punted the ball back to Los Angeles which pinned the Chargers deep.
As a result of being pinned deep, the Chargers gave up a safety because right tackle Joe Alt held Raiders defensive end Max Crosby in the end zone which added more cushion to the lead as Las Vegas went up 26-14.
Then the Raiders recovered the onside kick from the Chargers and then took a knee to end the game with Las Vegas taking the win 26-14 over Los Angeles.
Based on the outcome of this game, the Raiders now improve to 2-0 while the Chargers move to 0-2.
Heading into next week, the Chargers must figure out a way to pick up a win, otherwise, they will fall to 0-3 and be in great danger of missing the postseason.
