Taking a look at the Los Angeles Chargers injury report ahead of their matchup against the Los Angeles Rams in the battle of LA.
The Los Angeles Chargers are hoping to earn their first win of the season on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams in the battle of LA, but it will not be an easy task and will no doubt take a full 60-minute performance.
With that said, health in this game is going to be critical, so let's take a look at the final injury report for the Chargers with players who are out, questionable, and on track to play.
Chargers Final Injury Report
Out:
WR Brenen Thompson (quadricep/hamstring)
G Kayode Awosika (fibula)
S Derwin James Jr. (hamstring)
DB Deane Leonard (concussion)
Questionable:
CB Donte Jackson (hamstring)
CB Rodney Shelly (hamstring)
On Track to Play:
WR Tre Harris (hamstring)
WR Ladd McConkey (concussion)
OLB Khalil Mack (NIR-rest)
Derwin James Jr. Placed on IR
Focusing on James, he was actually placed on IR on Saturday, according to Adam Schefter, which is not really a surprise when considering that it was viewed as a possibility earlier in the week.
As a result of that, the Chargers will now officially be without James for at least the next four games, which adds to the fact that James has not played since Week 3. So, the Chargers will need their safety room to step up with James being placed on IR.
The Big Picture for Sunday
Now, looking at the big picture for Sunday, the Chargers knew they were more likely than not going to be without James, which should not affect their game plan too much on defense.
Additionally, Awosika, Thompson, and Leonard did not practice all week so head coach Jim Harbaugh and the coaching staff knew that they would be without those three players as well, which like James should not have affected the game plan too much.
In the secondary, it is going to be interesting to see if Jackson and Shelly are going to be able to play because the Rams have a great receiver in the form of Puka Nacua, who can take advantage if the secondary is not ready to play.
On the offensive side, having Harris and McConkey being on track to be in the lineup for Sunday could be huge for quarterback Justin Herbert and the offense to get on track in the passing game which is something that the offense has been unable to do all year thus far.
Lastly, for Mack to be available is not a surprise at all, as he was simply resting, and as a veteran, that is fairly normal for Mack so he should be a full go against the Rams' offensive line on Sunday.
All that said, the Chargers are in a solid position health wise heading into this matchup against the Rams, so it will ultimately come downs to which team executes better between the Chargers and the Rams.
So, when the game starts on Sunday, it will be interesting to see if the Chargers can come out and have a full 60-minute performance to earn their first win of the year or if the Chargers' struggles will continue and lead to a Rams win as well as the Chargers falling to 0-7.
