Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert receives a failing grade on the latest QB report card.
The Los Angeles Chargers fell yet again as they lost the battle of LA against the Los Angeles Rams by a final score of 24-9 in a game where they struggled to get going offensively, which has really been the case all year long thus far.
With that said, one player in particular who continues to struggle is quarterback Justin Herbert who once again had a rough game which was indicated by the latest quarterback report card.
Following the results of this past week, Bleacher Report NFL analyst Brent Sobleski did the QB report cards for 2026 NFL Week 8, and for Herbert, Sobleski gave him a failing grade as Herbert received an F for his performance.
When looking at the overall picture from Sunday's game, it was clear that Herbert was unable to get going and really struggled to be able to consistently move the ball down the field which is not much different than how it has been so far for LA.
For the game, Herbert completed 24 of his 32 passes for 257 yards, two interceptions, fumbled once and did not lose the fumble as well as a QBR of 57.7. Herbert also added four carries for 15 yards on the ground.
All that said, it was not a good performance from Herbert, especially because the Rams turned Herbert's two interceptions into 10 points.
Keeping that in mind, Herbert put the Chargers' defense in a very rough spot because, other than those 10 points, the Chargers were able to hold the Rams to 14, so spotting the Rams 10 points off turnovers is something that Herbert simply cannot do.
While Herbert did play well, the fact that the Chargers could not run the ball effectively yet again did not help.
During this game, the Chargers ran the ball 25 times for 64 yards and averaged 2.6 yards per carry, which is not good at all and leads to obvious passing situations on the later downs and puts a lot of pressure on Herbert, the offensive line, and the pass catchers.
Seeing all of these problems, part of it is that the Chargers need to play better, but a lot of it also comes back on offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who has really struggled to find success this year as a play caller, and it has really shown through the Chargers' 0-7 start.
Getting back to Herbert, even though other aspects of the offense are underperforming, it comes back on him as the quarterback to put the offense in a better position by making audibles, taking care of the ball, and having an understanding of the offense, and at this point it does still appear that he and McDaniel are not on the same page.
Heading into Week 9, it will be interesting to see if McDaniel and Herbert can get on the same page and if this offense shows progression, because if it does not, there could be major questions about the future of McDaniel in Los Angeles, but also there may even be questions about whether or not Herbert is truly a franchise quarterback if there are not already questions about that.
