The Los Angeles Chargers need help on offense. That much was evident from the team's stifled offensive performance against the New England Patriots in the postseason.
We all probably expected the Chargers to at least score one touchdown against the Patriots. That, of course, did not happen and left questions about where the team could change looking toward the next season on the field.
Los Angeles did address offense to a degree this offseason already adding offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel to breathe life into the offense. Yet in a player's game, many coaches will tell you that it's not about the X's and O's. It's about the Jimmy's and Joe's, or the players.
The Bolts could add a big-time player this offseason, too. Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports named the Chargers as one of few potential teams to pull off a trade for Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown.
"A key reason for the Chargers' downfall in 2025 was simply due to both of their tackles going down. Well, both Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt should be back healthy for 2026, which will give Justin Herbert more time to throw the football. When he does, he'll likely need another top weapon at his disposal. Ladd McConkey took a step back from his sensational rookie season but is still a solid option in the passing game. However, Keenan Allen, who turns 34 in April, led the team with 122 targets throughout the year. Putting a talent like Brown in this mix with new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel pulling the strings could be just what Herbert and the unit need to go to the next level."
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown (11) can't make catch during the fourth quarter against the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC Wild Card Round game at Lincoln Financial Field. Eric Hartline-Imagn ImagesBrown alone isn't going to fix all of the Chargers' issues, nor will he ensure that star quarterback Justin Herbert will always perform well in big games. That said, he will increase the Bolts' chances of success on the football field.
It's unclear who will end up the "winner of the offseason," but if the Chargers were able to pull off a trade like this in addition to adding McDaniel, you'd be hard pressed to find a team that improved more than they would have after the 2025 season.
Los Angeles is primed for a significant comeback should they allow last year's failures to fuel this year's success in offseason preparation. The Chargers will look to make the necessary improvements to reach the next level in 2026.
