The Los Angeles Chargers have re-signed offensive tackle Trevor Penning and special teams contributor Deane Leonard. Additionally, the Bolts have agreed to terms with former Miami Dolphins offensive guard Cole Strange while losing free agent cornerback Benjamin St-Juste to the Green Bay Packers.
Kyusung Gong - Associated PressThe Chargers have re-signed veteran tackle and former first-round pick Trevor Penning to a one-year, $4.5 million deal after acquiring the 26-year-old from the New Orleans Saints at the 2025 NFL trade deadline for a 2027 sixth-round pick.
At six-foot-seven, 325 pounds, Penning attempted to transition to guard during his final stretch in the Big Easy but moved back to tackle upon joining the Bolts. He allowed five sacks in 2025 across 345 pass-blocking snaps and finished with a career-low 53.5 overall grade from Pro Football Focus.
Penning represents a low-risk, potentially high-reward signing for Los Angeles. While he’s serviceable as a run blocker, he still has the traits to develop into a reliable pass protector.
Kirby Lee - USA TODAY SportsThe 26-year-old former seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has agreed to stay in Los Angeles on a one-year, $2 million deal.
While Leonard has yet to carve out a consistent role on the defensive side of the ball, he has served as a reliable gunner and key special teams contributor for the Chargers since entering the league. Over his career, he has recorded 46 total tackles (34 solo), six passes defensed, one tackle for loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Nathan Ray Seebeck - Imagn Images The 27-year-old former New England Patriots first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has signed a two-year, $13 million deal with Los Angeles, reuniting with his former head coach in Miami and new Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.
In 2025 with the Dolphins, Strange allowed two sacks and 21 total pressures across 457 pass-blocking snaps. He appeared in 14 games last season, primarily at right guard, and has started 41 of the 42 games he has played in his career.
Strange fits well within the Chargers’ scheme and is also a solid run blocker. He provides a reliable replacement after the team lost both starting guards, with Zion Johnson heading to the Cleveland Browns and Mekhi Becton being released.

In 2025, the 28-year-old recorded 37 total tackles (22 solo), one interception and seven pass breakups, while his 75.6 overall grade ranked 11th among 114 qualifying cornerbacks and his 77.1 coverage grade ranked eighth at the position.
Los Angeles should be in the market for a veteran corner following St-Juste’s departure, and available players such as Trevon Diggs, Tre'Davious White, Marshon Lattimore, Adoree’ Jackson and Jeff Okudah could make sense for the Chargers.
If they choose to turn to the draft, Clemson’s Avieon Terrell, Indiana’s D’Angelo Ponds, Miami’s Keionte Scott and Duke’s Chandler Rivers could be potential options for Los Angeles at cornerback.
