The North Carolina defensive back could be a Day 3 fit for Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Chargers are scheduled to host North Carolina CB Thaddeus “Thad” Dixon for a Top 30 visit, with the projected Day 3 pick emerging as a potential fit for the Bolts.

Additionally, Dixon is scheduled to meet with the New York Giants and spoke with the New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders, Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers at UNC’s pro day earlier this week, though he did not participate in drills.

The Los Angeles, CA native spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career with the  University of Washington, recording 69 total tackles (46 solo), 17 stops, 16 pass broken up, two interceptions and one forced fumble during his to time with the Huskies. He earned a career-high 80.9 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus during his final season with the program in 2024, while allowing a 47.9% completion rate.

Dixon transferred to North Carolina for his senior year, where he posted 20 total tackles (14 solo), six passes broken up and five stops in seven games. He missed five games due to lingering hamstring and upper-body injuries sustained against the Clemson Tigers in October. Dixon proved his versatility in his lone season with the Tar Heels, logging 290 snaps at outside corner, 59 in the slot, 33 in the box and nine at safety, making him an easy schematic fit at the next level.

After attending the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, Dixon measured six-foot-one, 195 pounds with 31 1/8-inch arms and 10-inch hands. He posted a 39.5-inch vertical and a 10-foot-five broad jump. According to Next Gen Stats, his performance earned a total score of 70, which ranked 24th among participating cornerbacks, while his production score of 65 ranked 23rd and his estimated athleticism score of 72 ranked 14th at the position.

With Benjamin St-Juste heading to the Packers on a two-year, $10 million deal with $3 million guaranteed, it wouldn’t hurt for Los Angeles to add some depth at the cornerback position on Day 3 of the draft.

Dixon brings physicality and can be relied upon in man coverage due to his size and length. He isn’t the fastest prospect in this defensive back class, so he will need to protect his leverage to keep up with NFL speed. However, he has a knack for getting his hands on the ball in the air and would be an intriguing player to develop.
