Two mock draft paths reveal Chargers' draft strategy: stay put for talent or trade back for depth. Edge rushers, receivers, and offensive line help dominate.

On this episode, two distinct draft scenarios were explored for the Chargers with the 2026 NFL Draft less than two weeks away. The consensus was that the team currently holds five picks and would benefit from either staying pat or potentially trading back to accumulate additional selections.

In the first scenario where the Chargers maintain their five picks, the argument was made that an edge rusher, would be selected at 22 to address defensive needs. It was noted that a certain Tennessee WE with a 4.37 forty time, would fit well in a Mike McDaniels’ offensive system as a deep threat at pick 55. The discussion covered taking a center from Florida, at pick 86 as contingency planning at the position. It was discussed that a 6'4" cornerback from Washington, would fill secondary needs at pick 123, with a sneaky stud from USC, who posted a 90.7 overall grade, rounded out at pick 204 as a safety addition. This scenario received a B grade overall from PFF.

The trade-back scenario received considerably more enthusiasm. It was posited that the Chargers would trade their 22nd pick to Tennessee in exchange for the Titans' second and third-round picks, a fourth-round pick, and a 2027 fifth-round selection. This was discussed as a more strategic approach given the depth available in this draft class.

It was discussed that three additional trade scenarios were explored with Cleveland and Arizona as potential partners. The argument was made throughout that trading back makes more sense given the roster's multiple needs at edge rusher, secondary, and along the offensive line. It was noted that the consensus expectation is that the Chargers will likely trade the 22nd pick before draft night.
