Who should the Chargers draft in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft?
The Los Angeles Chargers still don’t have a consensus selection at pick 23. Because of this, fans frequently debate what they should address. While there are numerous available options, these five prospects stand out as perfect selections.
Vega Ioane
Penn State guard Vega Ioane is the ideal selection for the Chargers. His nasty streak against the run and prowess in pass protection make him a high-floor prospect who could develop into an all-pro player. They must protect Justin Herbert and allow him to operate the offense. Ioane would pair with Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt to form an exceptional group when healthy. He’s a home-run selection - the biggest question is if he will be available.
Jermod McCoy
The Chargers had a great pass defense in 2025, led by Donte Jackson. However, they could use an upgrade at cornerback and need to find their future at the position, as Jackson is 30 years old. As a result, Jermod McCoy would be a fantastic addition. The former Tennessee Volunteer missed the 2025 season with a torn ACL, but proved he hadn’t lost a step at his pro-day, running a 4.38 40-yard dash. Additionally, his 2024 film is among the best in college football. While McCoy’s a risky selection, he’s well worth the price at pick 23.
KC Concepcion
Wide receiver isn’t viewed as a major need in round one, but Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion is an enticing target. The Chargers have a young group at receiver, with Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and Tre Harris, but could use a dynamic threat after the catch. Concepcion had 440 yards after the catch in 2025 and is incredibly elusive in open space. He’s an amazing route runner, which allows him to consistently create separation. He’s a fun fit in the Chargers offense and would give Justin Herbert another dangerous playmaker.
Akheem Mesidor
Yes, Akheem Mesidor is 25 years old. Despite this, he’s still worthy of a first-round pick and would form an explosive trio with Tuli Tuipulotu and Khalil Mack. Mesidor’s violent hand usage (teetering on chaotic), refined pass rush moves, and outstanding athleticism help him consistently win one-on-one situations. He still needs improvement as a run defender, but he has every pass-rush tool to be an exceptional third-down contributor.
Aveion Terrell
Avieon Terrell is only five-foot-11, 180 pounds, but doesn’t play like it. He fires downhill to defend the run and is a constant turnover threat. Terrell forced five fumbles in 2025 and has three career interceptions. Additionally, his speed and short-area quickness help him keep up with receivers in coverage. He can be deployed anywhere on the field and will be impactful on the outside and in the slot. Because of the aforementioned cornerback need, he’s an intriguing option in round one.
