There are gaps on the Los Angeles Chargers roster that are most pressing. One of the spots on the roster where the Chargers need the biggest upgrade is at Center. They've had Bradley Bozeman holding down the position for the last two years. His play, however, has experienced a sharp worsening, and some of his blocking stats leave a lot to be desired.
One of the stats that jumps off the page first is the Pro Football Focus player grade for Centers. In this category, Bozeman ranked 40th out of 40 qualifying centers in 2025. Another issue is how much lower he ranked than he did just a year prior. His PFF grade dipped from 61 in 2024 to 51 in 2025. His pass-blocking grade fell from 53 to 49. He allowed 30 pressures and 5 hits on the year. His lowlight in a season marred by inconsistent play was week 4 versus the Giants. In that game, he gave up 4 pressures and had a pass-block grade of 24.6 in his worst performance of the year.
Furthermore, he allowed 1.9 pressures a game, and for most of the season, he led the league in pressures given up for centers. He played in 98.7% of the team's total snaps, and with a banged-up offensive line, his struggles stood out like a sore thumb. They also did so at a time when his team really could have used his production.
Bozeman is under contract for one more year. He was named team captain in 2024, and he's been a starter since he arrived. It just seems like this could be a great time to move on and upgrade at this position. He signed an extension last March to keep him in the fold in Los Angeles, but the team couldn't have predicted his steep decline.
Bozeman helped the team transition from long-time starter Corey Linsley, who was forced to give up his career due to a heart condition. A well-liked addition to the team, but with his massive struggles and the no-nonsense style of the coaching staff and leadership, his time as a starter on the team may be running short.
The team has to keep Justin Herbert upright to compete. It's a marvel that he wasn't injured more than the broken hand he did suffer while taking so many hits behind a patchwork offensive line. The team has to protect the franchise player in order to make the deep playoff run everyone in the organization is expecting and counting on.
It'll be interesting to see where the Chargers find their long-term solution at Center.
