After a solid 2025 season, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert lands himself in the top half of the NFL Top 100 list.
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is coming off a strong 2025 campaign, which helped him to earn the No. 39 spot on the NFL Top 100 players list.
Herbert's ability to land on this list shows how much his peers respect him, especially when he ranks in the top 40 which indicates that he may very well be one of the best players in the entire NFL.
Herbert got a lot of respect from his peers for his 2025 performance, but specifically from NFL linebacker Eric Kendricks. "Since I've been in the league, I feel like Justin Herbert is probably like a top-five athlete that I've ever seen," Kendricks said.
This is some high praise from Kendricks, and there is no question that Herbert's play backs this up.
In 2025, Herbert had 3,727 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and completed 66.4 percent of his passes. Herbert also added 498 yards and two touchdowns on the ground as a rusher. No matter what the Chargers needed out of Herbert, he was able to deliver and put the team in a position to win games, which is a major reason why Los Angeles went 11-6 and clinched a playoff spot.
While Herbert did have solid numbers, the season was not easy for him at all as he played behind a very inconsistent offensive line that struggled with injuries. The two biggest injuries up front were offensive tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt. Slater missed the entire while Alt did play a few games but was unable to stay healthy for its entirety.
With the injuries to Slater and Alt in mind, it is very clear why Herbert struggled against the top defenses and pass rush units. However, heading into 2026, Herbert should have both Slater and Alt back healthy which should mean great things for this offense.
It is also important to note that the Chargers will have a new offensive coordinator in Mike McDaniel who has become one of the most innovative offensive minds in the NFL and should help this offense to maximize its talent.
In terms of weapons, the Chargers have plenty as they have running backs Omarion Hampton, Kimani Vidal, and Keaton Mitchell; wide receivers Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, Tre' Harris, and rookie Brenen Thompson; in addition to tight ends Oronde Gadsden and David Njoku.
Up front the Chargers should also be much better with Alt and Slater coming back in addition to adding center Tyler Biadasz and guards Cole Strange, Jake Slaughter, and Kayode Awosika, in addition to Trevor Penning who are still competing to determine who earns the starting guard spots.
Looking ahead to the 2026 season, with the collection of weapons that Herbert has, the expected improvement from the offensive line, an amazing play caller in McDaniel, and a solid head coach in Jim Harbaugh, next season could see Herbert in the MVP conversation, which could put Los Angeles in prime position for a deep playoff run.
