Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert had a rough Week 6 performance, which was demonstrated in the latest quarterback report card.
The Los Angeles Chargers lost yet again as they fell in Week 6 to the Kansas City Chiefs on the road by a final score of 22-6, which now means that the Chargers sit at 0-6 heading into the bye week.
When it comes to the Chargers' overall performance in this game, it was not great, but in particular, quarterback Justin Herbert struggled once again, and Herbert's rough performance was demonstrated on the latest QB report card.
On that note, Bleacher Report NFL analyst Brent Sobleski released the QB report card for the Week 6 performances by each quarterback, and on the report card for Herbert, Sobleski gave him a grade of an F.
While Herbert receiving a grade of an F may seem harsh, the stat line does not do him any favors as Sobleski noted that Herbert has not completed at least 65 percent of his passes or thrown for 230 yards in any game this year and in addition to that, Herbert has thrown at least one interception in every game.
Looking at Herbert's stat line in this game, he went 22 for 37 for 204 passing yards and one interception while adding five carries for 26 yards on the ground. When seeing the production that Herbert had as a passer and as a rusher, it is simply not enough for a Chargers team that needs him to excel in each outing.
Even though Herbert did not play up to the standard, it is important to note that this team does have a ton of injuries to manage, especially when it comes to the offensive line, which has led to a lot of pressure. Speaking of pressure, according to Sharp Football Analysis, the Chargers' offensive line is allowing a pressure rate of 45.5 percent, which is the most pressure allowed in the entire NFL and is not something that can lead to success.
In addition to the pressure Herbert is dealing with on a consistent basis, he has not been able to rely on his pass catchers to stay healthy or get open, and is also still trying to figure out the offense under offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, which all contributed to a tough performance from Herbert and really the offense as a whole.
Getting back to Herbert, when asked by the media what went wrong, it appears that he and the offense are still trying to figure that part out. “I don’t know,” Herbert said. “If I had the answers, then we’d definitely be having a different conversation," said Herbert, per Noah Furtado of The Athletic.
When seeing what Herbert said following yet another tough performance, it appears that these issues on offense are not things that can be solved quickly, and if the offense is to be better moving forward, it will likely require changes of some kind, whether that be coaching moves or game planning in a different way.
Regardless, Herbert's performance in Week 6 against the Chiefs was not good, and he has to be better moving forward.
So, as Herbert and the Chargers head into their bye week, it will be interesting to see what kind of changes are made when the team takes the field again, because if the struggles continue, it is likely that this team will have to make major changes and possibly become sellers at the trade deadline.
