As you are probably aware by now, Keenan Allen is back on the Los Angeles Chargers (after a year spent in Chicago after the Bears traded for him and then traded him back to the Chargers) and having himself a very good season.
Now, "very good" is a subjective statement. This is not the best season of Allen's long and distinguished NFL career, but it's also not the worst. He's currently averaging 57.8 receiving yards per game on 5.6 catches per game. Over 9 games, he has caught 4 touchdown passes.
To start with, it's lovely to have Keenan Allen back and it felt wrong when he was on the Bears last year.
As if it wasn't annoying enough that he spent a year of his career in another time zone, Keenan Allen is about to break just about every Chargers receiving record (and would've broken them all last year if he were on the team).
Antonio Gates leads the franchise in receptions with 955. Keenan Allen currently has 954 receptions with the Chargers (and 1,024 receptions across his entire 13-year career).
Allen should tie, if not break, this record on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Seeing as how Allen has had a long career with very little in the way of injury issues (he missed half of the 2015 season and almost all of the 2016 season before winning Comeback Player of the Year in 2017), and based on the fact that he is still leading the 2025 Chargers in receptions per game, it's hard to imagine anyone that's currently on the team's roster ever catching or passing Allen to claim this record for themselves.
This one is a little bit more up in the air.
Antonio Gates leads all Chargers receivers with 11,841 receiving yards. Keenan Allen trails him by about 800 yards, with 11,050 receiving yards with the Chargers.
Again, had he been with the Chargers last year, this would be a lot closer. Allen has 11,794 total receiving yards across his entire NFL career.
It's not likely that Allen passes Gates on this stat this season and he's not signed to the Chargers beyond this season, so it's difficult to know if this record will stand for Gates or fall for Allen.
Currently leading the Chargers in receiving yards-per-game is rookie TE Oronde Gadsden and WR Ladd McConkey, both of whom are very young. I suppose it's possible that either (or both) of them could have a long career with the Chargers that ends with them claiming this record.
This record, you might be relieved to find, is safe.
Antonio Gates retires with 116 receiving TDs, all with the Chargers. Keenan Allen has just 63 receiving TDs, trailing behind #2 Lance Alworth with 81.
