The Los Angeles Chargers made a few roster moves ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
The Los Angeles Chargers are now in a position where they must pick up a win in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills, otherwise, the Chargers could be in serious trouble.
With that in mind, Los Angeles has made a few roster moves, according to Chargers ESPN reporter Kris Rhim, to adjust the roster heading into Sunday. So, let's take a look at those moves and see what kind of impact they may have on Sunday.
Looking at these moves, the biggest appears to be the fact that the Chargers placed offensive lineman Trey Pipkins III (knee) on injured reserve, meaning that he will miss at least the next four games.
With Pipkins on IR, as well as fellow offensive lineman Kayode Awosika out for a little bit as well, the Chargers will have to lean on offensive lineman Trevor Penning to be the starting left guard this week and potentially a little longer. So, it will be interesting to see how he performs and if Los Angeles can make improvements on offense.
Another move the Chargers made was signing quarterback DJ Uiagalelei to the active roster. The main reason for Los Angeles making this move is the fact that fellow quarterback Trey Lance was labeled as questionable on the final injury report on Friday, so the Chargers do need to ensure that they have a backup quarterback for Sunday.
At this point, there is no clear designation for Lance, but even if Lance is ruled out for Sunday, the Chargers do have Uiagalelei to step in because they made this move to sign him to the active roster.
The final two moves for the Chargers include elevating tight end Patrick Herbert and outside linebacker Caleb Murphy from the practice squad for the game on Sunday.
Herbert was elevated because the tight end room is in a tough spot when it comes to depth, with tight ends Charlie Kolar and David Njoku both being out for this game. Kolar was simply ruled out, while Njoku was placed on IR earlier in the week.
For Murphy, he has been elevated to provide some more depth at outside linebacker which he could provide on defense, but also on special teams.
So, as the Chargers head into Sunday, it will be very interesting to monitor how Penning plays, if Uiagalelei is the backup quarterback, as well as the type of impacts that Herbert and Murphy can make to potentially help Los Angeles get in the win column for their first win of the 2026 season.
