Chiefs' Big Question Is All About Helping Patrick Mahomes cover image

With Mahomes' future uncertain, Kansas City targets offensive weapons in free agency and the draft to reignite their Super Bowl aspirations.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been accustomed to playing in the NFL postseason, so this year was a bit unorthodox for everybody.

Yet, the Chiefs enter the offseason with a lot of questions. Superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes is coming off a torn ACL, and the Chiefs decided to restructure his contract in an effort to free up more cap space ahead of free agency.

Nobody knows the status of future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce, and he could retire or run it back for one more year.

And, the Miami Dolphins just released wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and a return to Kansas City seems like an obvious fit for both sides.

Ahead of free agency, Matthew Washington and Daniel Velante of The Score had one question for every team, and the Chiefs are all about getting Mahomes more help.

What can they do to help Mahomes?

For starters, the Chiefs brought back Eric Bieniemy as the offensive coordinator, and the offense with him in charge was exciting.

The Chiefs are also commonly linked to Notre Dame star running back Jeremiah Love at No. 9 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, and potentially even Oregon Ducks star tight end Kenyon Sadiq, if Kelce decides to call it a career.

Can The Chiefs Land a Big Fish In Free Agency?

To begin, free agency will be very important. This Chiefs team just had three straight Super Bowl appearances, so they are right there.

Thus, adding a star to the offense in free agency should help. The WR room has some options, including Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs and even Indianapolis Colts speedster Alec Pierce.

The running back room also has choices, with Seattle Seahawks RB and reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker potentially hitting the market.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne is also a free agent, but who knows how much money they will command and if the Chiefs are even interested.

Hey, even longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans is heading for free agency and going to weigh his options. Can you imagine Mahomes throwing high lob passes to Evans in the end zone?

What the front office does remains to be seen, and while a reunion with Hill makes sense, he might not even play in 2026, so that won't help the Chiefs right away.

Nonetheless, expect Kansas City to look to add to the offense.
