The Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills have become arguably the best rivalry in the NFL, and they meet again in Week 9 in Buffalo.
The Bills enter the game 5-2, and bounced back from a two-game losing streak with a 40-9 victory against the Carolina Panthers in Week 8.
The Chiefs offense is looking like it did in 2019, as the team is 5-1 after an 0-2 start while averaging 30.8 PPG during that stretch.
Patrick Mahomes is once again playing at an MVP level, and he and the Chiefs caught a break for Week 9 as Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver was placed on the injured reserve for a biceps injury.
Going to the IR means that Oliver is out for at least the next four games, but the Chiefs just care that he is out for Sunday's game.
Oliver is one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, and he does a phenomenal job of making things much easier for his teammates. On the year, he has only played in 2.5 games, as he missed four games earlier in the season with an ankle injury. He has 12 tackles, and his three sacks are tied with Joey Bosa for the team lead.
While his numbers may not scream superstar player, Oliver is the first guy on the defense any Bills opponent marks on the gameplan. He has the ability to wreck the running game, and demands a constant double-team throughout the game.
The Chiefs got good news on Wednesday as Pro-Bowl guard Trey Smith was back at practice after missing the Monday Night Football win against the Washington Commanders.
RIght now, the Chiefs offense doesn't need much help as long as it isn't beating itself with mistakes. In the game against the Commanders, Mahomes threw two interceptions in the first half as the score was tied at 7.
However, once the team started clicking, Mahomes went 17-of-19 for 210 yards and three touchdowns in the second half.
This is the closest rivalry the NFL has seen since the days that Peyton Manning was leading the Indianapolis Colts against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
This is the 10th time these two quarrterbacks have went up against each other, with Mahomes holding a 5-4 lead. Winning this game is obviously big when it comes to the race for the No. 1 seed in the AFC, but this could just be the game before what feels like an inevitable playoff matchup.
Kickoff between the two teams is at 4:25 p.m. ET, and the game will be on CBS.
