The Kansas City Chiefs will have their first preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 15, as the team looks to get back to greatness following a down season.
The Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been through some awful events over the past three weeks, and now he's back on the football field.
The news of Bieniemy's wife Mia being shot in her own home shocked the football world just weeks ago, which then developed into an even worse situation when it was revealed that his son Elijah was behind the horrific act.
Since the shooting, Mia's condition has improved, and Eric is back with the Chiefs in training camp as of Monday.
Our hosts, Golden J and Chico, are more than excited to have Bieniemy back with Kansas City and continue to keep Mia in mind as he recovers.
More news coming out of camp: veteran tight end Travis Kelce ultimately decided to return to the NFL this season after many rumors that he'd retire. Golden J notes that Kelce still looks to be in great shape despite entering his age-37 season, and our duo has high hopes for the TE in what could actually be his final season.
Staying on the offense, Golden J mentions that the Chiefs still don't necessarily have a WR1 and brings up the frustrations that come with Rashee Rice's inability to stay out of trouble off the field.
Rice is a highly gifted athlete, but notably spent 30-days in jail this summer, all the while trying to rehab his injured knee.
Defensively, the Chiefs are awaiting their first-round pick cornerback Mansoor Delane to recover from a shoulder injury. On the bright side, Golden J thinks Delane will be recovered in time for Week 1's Monday Night Football game against their division rival, the Denver Broncos.
Ahead of that showdown, though, the Chiefs host the Los Angeles Rams in their first preseason game of the year Saturday, Aug. 15, at 4:00 pm EST.
Despite this weekend's game against Los Angeles likely not featuring any of the Chiefs' stars, our hosts discuss the potential rookies to make a name for themselves in what could be the start of a great career.
One storyline to watch Saturday is former Chiefs standout cornerback Trent McDuffie, who makes his return to Arrowhead Stadium for the first time since being traded earlier this year.
