Josh Simmons was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 32nd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft with the hopes that he would finally solve the team's issues at the left tackle position.
During the entire time that Patrick Mahomes has been the quarterback of the Chiefs, they have not been able to find a franchise left tackle.
Early in the season, SImmons had given fans the hope he was just that, as he got his rookie year off to a fantastic start. However, he left the team two weeks ago, as he is dealing with a 'family situation'.
According to Nate Taylor of ESPN, Simmons is expected to rejoin the team in the next few weeks.
The Chiefs host the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football in Week 8, and then have a huge road game at Buffalo the following week. With the bye coming up after that game against the Bills, that would be a date where Simmons could return and not have to rush back into a game.
Filling in for Simmons the last two weeks has been Jaylon Moore, who the Chiefs signed this off-season from the San Francisco 49ers on a two-year, $30 million contract. He filled in nicely for Simmons, and the Chiefs didn't miss a beat.
Since an 0-2 start, the Chiefs have won three of their last four, and have averaged 31.5 points. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is once again looking like an MVP candidate. The last couple of seasons, he hasn't had that trust in the offensive line, and he has got the ball out of his hands quickly or took off and ran.
During this impressive streak, he is allowing his receivers to have the time to get open, and the big play has once again become a big part of the Chiefs offense. This can only happen if Mahomes has a trust in his offensive line, which he clearly does.
Moore once again will be the guy at left tackle against the Commanders on Monday night. Simmons isn't the only offensive lineman that the Chiefs could be missing in that game, as guard Trey Smith left last week's game with a back injury.
He hasn't been practicing, and his status for the game against the Commanders is questionable.
All along, the Chiefs made sure to keep what was going on in Simmons' personal life in-house, and they did just that. Now, it sounds like he will be rejoining the team very soon, to help take the offense to even another level.
