With a roster logjam at cornerback, Brett Veach may flip the veteran defender for assets before the 53-man deadline to clear space for rising rookie talent.
The Kansas City Chiefs will conclude their preseason slate with a home game against the Seattle Seahawks on Friday night.
Then, the Kansas City front office will have to figure out what to do when it comes to finalizing the 53-man roster.
The final preseason game could be make or break for some players, and GM Brett Veach will surely be evaluating during the game.
Kevin Patra of NFL.com identified some potential trade candidates across the league, and one of them named is Chiefs cornerback Kristian Fulton.
Now, it seems unlikely that Veach just cuts Fulton, but Patra said it's more likely that the team tries to find a trade partner for him.
"I don’t think general manager Brett Veach will outright cut Fulton, who was solid in eight games last season, but if I was a team needing corner help, I’d inquire about a trade," Patra wrote.
In 2025, the Chiefs gave Fulton a 2-year, $20M deal with $15M guaranteed after he spent the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Fulton initially began his career with the Tennessee Titans, where he played four seasons and had four interceptions total. The Titans had selected Fulton at No. 61 overall in 2020 after he played in college for the LSU Tigers.
Fulton is just 27 years old, although he turns 28 on September 3, but he could be an attractive trade chip for other teams across the league.
Kansas City selected LSU star cornerback Mansoor Delane in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and since then, Fulton has been viewed as a cut or a trade candidate.
One X user even suggested that Fulton gets traded, and the Kansas City secondary could be a logjam, so a trade would allow Fulton more opportunity to play in another city.
Now, it's not that Fulton is a bad player, not at all.
However, he is on the final year of his deal, and with some new faces in Kansas City, the franchise might try to get something for him and open the way for other players to get some more playing time, such as Delane.
The deadline to cut the rosters down to 53 players is coming quickly, and Brett Veach might be working the phones in a few different ways to address some areas across the roster ahead of the regular season opener against the Denver Broncos.
