Pundits lean toward a Seattle upset as Patrick Mahomes and MVP candidate Kenneth Walker III head to Lumen Field for a high-stakes Sunday Night Football homecoming.
The Kansas City Chiefs are one of two teams remaining in the NFL with an undefeated record. The other one is the San Francisco 49ers, and both teams are on a collision course to the Super Bowl at this rate.
Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has played well despite tearing his ACL last season. And, prized free-agent acquisition Kenneth Walker III is right in the NFL MVP mix in what has been a monster season for the reigning Super Bowl MVP.
In Week 7, the Chiefs face Walker's former team, the Seattle Seahawks, at Lumen Field in Washington on Sunday Night Football, so this will be a massive showdown for several reasons.
Five NFL.com editors made their picks for this game, and three had Seattle winning, with the other two picking Kansas City.
- Jeremy Bergman: Seahawks win, 24-20
- Brooke Cersosimo: Seahawks win, 24-23
- Gennaro Filice: Chiefs win, 23-20
- Bobby Kownack: Chiefs win, 26-23
- Dan Parr: Seahawks win, 24-21
As you can see, all five of them have it being a close game, and three of them have this game being decided by a field goal.
The Seahawks are 3-3, and the reigning Super Bowl champions have lost the last two games to the 49ers and the Denver Broncos. However, Seattle lost by a field goal each time, and the other loss came to the Washington Commanders by two points on the road in Week 3.
Here's some of why Filice is rolling with Kansas City to get the win.
"Hindsight is 20/20, but the fallout from this transaction has given me the foresight to back the team with K9."
The transaction is the decision for the Chiefs to give Walker a three-year, $45 million deal at the start of free agency.
For years, Kansas City has needed a workhorse RB, and Walker has already proven to be that guy. Through six games, he has 665 yards on 106 carries with 6 touchdowns. He leads the NFL in rushing yards, and he is just one of three players to have 600 or more yards, with Bijan Robinson and James Cook as the others.
Walker is also averaging a whopping 6.3 yards per rush, second in the NFL behind Malik Willis, but the only RB to be above 6 yards per carry.
The Chiefs will face the Denver Broncos the week after, followed by the New York Jets, so if they can get this win, an undefeated record and a top spot in the power rankings could be a consistent theme.
