After the Kansas City Chiefs' training camp finished Sunday afternoon, news broke that offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy's wife was horrifically shot while residing at their home.
The Kansas City Chiefs reunited with offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy in the offseason after the 56-year-old finished a brief stint with the Chicago Bears in 2025.
When the Chiefs' training camp began over the weekend, many fans and players alike were excited to have Bieniemy back with the organization. The OC was finally back in a position that he held from 2018-2022.
Now, horrific news has come out regarding his wife, Mia Bieniemy, as reports are mentioning that she was attacked in her own home.
Kansas City's training camp wrapped up on Sunday afternoon with much to be excited about. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was seen on the field as a full participant, throwing passes to running back Emmett Johnson.
Johnson also revealed that he was able to attain a degree from the University of Nebraska over the offseason, effectively rounding out a great day for Chiefs Kingdom while practicing in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Hours after the news out of training camp dwindled down, Bieniemy's wife was at their home in Virginia, where she was shot.
The latest development on the situation comes from ESPN's Nate Taylor, who noted that the Chiefs said they are "aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy's family."
Taylor also mentioned that police had arrived to the scene in Virginia at 7:32 p.m. EST, so the information available regarding the shooting is still incredibly limited.
As of Monday morning, there are no updates regarding Mia's health or Eric's status with the team.
This is certainly a terrible time for all of Chiefs Kingdom, and Mia's recovery should be of utmost importance.
10:56 a.m. EST Update:
The Loudon County, Virginia Sheriff's Office released an official statement that Eric's son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in Commission with a Felony, and Discharge of a Firearm inside of a Dwelling.
The story has progressed from what appeared to be some sort of robbery or an attack on Mia from a third party into what looks like a planned shooting by their son, Elijah. Nothing has been confirmed, and the investigation is still underway.
11:32 a.m. EST Update:
Eric has been confirmed to have left training camp after Sunday's practice, and is not in attendance Monday.
1:21 p.m. EST Update:
ESPN's Taylor transcribed a quote from head coach Andy Reid, stating "Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy. ... Mia is stable, which is a plus. ... We all love EB & you hate seeing those things happens. ... Real life. You take care of that. She's a saint, one of God's good blessings. But things happen."
Thankfully, Mia is stable.
