Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes throws again, fueling comeback hopes after ACL surgery. Fans rejoice as QB1 appears ahead of schedule for Week 1.

The Kansas City Chiefs missed the postseason in 2025, and they now have a top-10 pick and an extra first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

A lot happened in Kansas City this offseason. Kenneth Walker III came to town in free agency.

Travis Kelce returned for at least one more season, and big names such as Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, Bryan Cook, Leo Chenal, Isiah Pacheco and Hollywood Brown all left.

McDuffie was traded, but the rest left in free agency, so the Chiefs' roster looks much different than it did a few months ago.

The Chiefs also saw backup quarterback Gardner Minshew sign with the Arizona Cardinals, but KC filled that void by acquiring Justin Fields in a trade with the New York Jets.

The biggest question will be how Patrick Mahomes recovers from his torn ACL

If Mahomes recovers well, the Chiefs can make a return to the playoffs in 2026.

If not, it could be another long season in Kansas City. On Wednesday, Mahomes sure got fans excited with a video he posted of him throwing the football in his recovery process.

"Day by Day! Felt Great being able to throw the ball out around today!" Mahomes wrote on the video.

Fans reacted to Mahomes throwing just 100 days after surgery.

Mahomes had initially stated that he wanted to be ready by Week 1, and so far, that should be a very realistic scenario for the Chiefs' star.

"I want to be ready for Week 1, the doctor said that I could be, but I can’t predict what’s going to happen throughout the process. That’s my goal. I’ll try to prepare myself to be ready to play in Week 1, and have no restrictions,ā€ Mahomes said after the injury.

The Chiefs account also posted Mahomes' video on X, with the caption reading, "QB1 back in the lab."

Minshew suffered an injury after replacing Mahomes, and Chris Oladokun took over as the starter for the rest of the regular season.

Now, if Mahomes isn't ready by Week 1, the Chiefs have Fields available, and that is a decent backup QB to use, which could allow them to be extra cautious with their superstar quarterback.

On the other hand, Mahomes seems to be ahead of schedule early on, and at this rate, it's hard to imagine not seeing him on the field for Week 1.
